Burn Notice: Season 4 - Discussion & Spoilers

I like it when he's playing a spy...
This was a great episode, probably the best of the season. I'm not the greatest fan of love triangles but I kinda liked the Jesse-Fiona thing... plus It's always great to see Steven Culp

OK..finally got around to watching this week's episode.

WOW. This one was great--lots of "think on your feet" action, which exactly what this show does best. Even Mom gets into the act. This one was full of tension and was a great little action piece. I really enjoyed this one.

I really liked this episode but hated the "Jesse's got a crush on Fiona" bit. We so don't need that.

Yeah, that was lame. Was there any hint of that in prior episodes? It would've been better if Michael and Fiona reminded him of someone he loved and lost. And then you could have an episode about it!

I don't think so. I think this was the first episode to hint at it.

It seems to me that although there was no dialogue per se, body language clearly hinted at it, for at least two episodes.

I'm considering quitting the series, the spy crap is really disgusting. "Finally, I get to kill some Russians!" is lingering in my memory and affecting the viewing.

It seemed hinted at in other episodes to me, but this is the first time they've gone out and said it. I hope they drop the idea, as it doesn't interest me. Neither does the attempt at tension between Michael and Fiona, honestly. They're a couple. Not every romantic pair on television needs to be Mulder and Scully.

Why was Michael so well-known by the Russians? I haven't seen every episode of the series, mind you, but he's never seemed so well-known before. And, given that he's been picked up by the police before, I don't see how the Russians would have thought him to be a myth.

See, that was one part of this episode that seemed a bit out of left field. I never got a "crush" vibe from Jesse. There was maybe some "Wow, she's hot" looks, but nothing that would indicate there was anything more there.

I would rather they drop this quickly; it just doesn't fit with the overall tone of the show. The whole "secret crush" plotline is too soap-opera-ish for a spy/action show.

Michael pretends to be a hit man to save the life of a witness.

I enjoyed tonight's episode. Having the FBI guys back was great and it was a good 'think on your feet" episode for Michael.

Need more Sam, though. But then, don't they all?

Michael was a little too good at talking his way out of a mess this episode (getting the hitman to switch sides). Of course, this is a show where he uses his real name, everyone knows where he lives, and no one comes after him. :p

I for one don't really want this show to be overly realistic. I just want it to be fun and for the most part, it manages that. It's in many ways a modern adaptation of The A-Team.

^It is, a little bit. I rather that enjoy that aspect as well. A little bit realistic, a little bit James Bond.

I watched the latest, seems the last 2 eps have picked up from a bit of a lull in the writing. The Burt Reynolds one was a low point, sadly, the guy he was playing was just a loony old fucker who liked killing people - this is the guy Michael is supposed to become in his old age? Never happen. As for the whole "Michael Westen the Russian killer" I took it to be a boogeyman story, not necessarily the truth.

And I don't know why they didn't dummy up a Bible with the same words highlighted and given that to Vaughn, or indeed one with a bunch of words highlighted at random. But that's just me, I suspect.

Australis, I had the same thought about the Bible... but I suppose Vaughan would have figured it out eventually, and then there would have been repercussions...

The very name Michael Westen sets the band of assassins back. The notion trained assassins are all scared of a boogeyman is unlikely. It's true the notion the evil Russians have a very busy assassination department that works abroad is also unlikely. Both tap into the worst prejudices of Cold War spy thrillers. (Apparently the Russian people can't be forgiven for their Communist transgression against the American way.) The plot of the episode depended upon these notions being "true," at least in the fictional universe.

I'm desperately hoping that Burt Reynolds is ultimately intended to be a cautionary figure. But the sentimental infliction of Alzheimer's on the character by the writers, I fear not.

And, although this show has previously been notable for explicitly defying the premise that torture works as an interrogation tool, it does in this one.

For me, the satisfying end game for the series Burn Notice is Michael deliberately burning some awful "spy", Vaughan or one like him, for decency sake. I fear the producers see it as Michael's reinstatement.

When the life of Sam's friend who is serving time in a high-security prison is in danger, Michael has to find a way in to protect Sam's friend.

Finally saw this one. Great episode. I wish they would do more of these ones where Michael gets trapped somewhere for a long period of time (like during a bank robbery). They're easily my favorites.

Of course Vaughn burned Michael. Robert Wisdom is always playing bad guys. It might be interesting if Jesse really wasn't burned but is spying on Michael for Vaughn.

what's up with Jess having the hots for Fiona? they mention it once and that it?!?
