BEETLEJUICE, BEETLEJUICE (2024)

nTbKiJD.jpeg

From Bloody Disgusting.

We've got an official title, poster, and release date of 9/6/2024 for the Beetlejuice sequel.

I'm still not sold on the need for it, but I'm looking forward to watching. Even if it's a train wreck, I hope it's an interesting one. And Keaton is always enjoyable.
I'm looking forward to this movie, I enjoyed what Burton had done with "Wednesday" on Netflix and ever since I've been going back to his movies. I'll be getting to Beetlejuice as the movie is closer in my calendar. I hope its something clever and funny... it has to be funny.

I'm a little surprised we didn't get anything for this during the Super Bowl. I was expecting something, even if it was just a short little teaser.

I love the group photo. Sooo good to see Winona Ryder back as Lydia.

Justin Theroux's character has a name now, and considering his inclusion in the photo, I'm guessing Rory is Astrid's father.

Star Trek II was special
Superman II was special
Spaceballs lampooned a not-to-be sequel, and that was special
E.T. II was never made, so that's special

I just hope Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is special.

It's not much but....

It's the best damned thing to happen so far this year!

Okay, sorry, I'm on a Winona Ryder-induced high right now, that's probably not how I'll feel in a few hours, but still.

Couple of things:

- I'm pretty sure that's Winona Ryder singing the first bit before the chorus kicks in. Certainly sounds like her.

- Also pretty sure that's Charles Deetz's funeral there. There's a photo on the translucent headstone (which I'm sure will be revealed to have been designed by Delia), and while it's hard to make out, it does look like him. Makes sense, they weren't going to bring Jeffrey Jones back. Although, yes, in this universe, the character being dead would not exclude an appearance. From this, my guess for the plot would be that Astrid is shaken by the death of her grandfather and tries to cross over to the afterlife, which is where Beetlejuice would come in.

- Man, I love that jacket Lydia's wearing at the end.

Yeah, I would assume it's Charles, since he's only member of the Deetz family not there.
I definitely like the tone and look of the trailer. I know some of Tim Burton's movie have been kind of hit or miss lately, this trailer has me optimistic this will be a hit.

I loved every second of it, especially the cover of "Day-O."

Did we know Burn Gorman was going to be in this film? The new cast is already stacked but I'm thrilled he plays even a small part in it!

Oh, damn, I didn't notice that but listening to it again, I think (and hope!) you're right.

Same here. :D

I’m loving what we’re seeing! Though I think an October release would make more sense.
Yeah, I'm still surprised they opted for a summer release but I guess they're angling for blockbuster money. That and it seems like a lot of seasonal films aren't ever released during their actual season. Halloween films are in the summer or a little later, rarely actually October. Christmas-centric films come out in November! Drives me nutty.

Pausing it, it's definitely him.

Good catch, it does sound like her, now that you mention it. And Burton had her sing in Frankenweeinie, so it's entirely possible he wanted her to do it again.

I wonder if Lydia sings it at Charles' funeral and then the choir takes it over.

I only have vague memories of the first film (I probably haven't watched it since the 90s), but I liked the trailer. It makes me want to rewatch the first movie, which...is literally not streaming anywhere. Don't you just love this modern age of having 100 streaming services that still manage to leave some major movies without a home  Its not a huge deal, I'll just pick it up from the public library eventually, but its weird that a fairly big 80s movie, which is having a major sequel, isn't on any streaming service right now, just VOD places online.

I just looked at King, Pierce and Snohomish County Library websites and it's available, but you're going to have to wait in line, all available copies are checked out. I would put my name on the list now as there's probably going to be a spike in interest as the movie gets closer to release date.

It was on either Hulu or Prime Video for a while, but it does appear to be gone now. I'd be shocked if it didn't pop back up on one of them before the second one is out.

I'm in a smaller county (well not necessarily size wise, but definitely population wise) then those, but we have a decent Public Library system. I'm sure I'll be able to pick it up eventually, but I'm not in a huge rush. I'm interested in the film/sequel, but its not a "going to see it in theaters" rush for the sequel, so I'll get to it when I can.

That is possible, and I'll keep an eye out. To be clear its not like I'm super hyped or anything, just somewhat interested but it won't be the end of the world if it takes a bit for me to rewatch the movie.
