News Avatar: The Seven Heavens, Announced by Nickelodeon & Avatar Studios

As part of a celebration of The Last Airbender's 20th Anniversary the franchise's creators, Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, announced that a new series, The Seven Heavens will be coming out.

It will be 2D animation and will have 26 episode split across 2 seasons or "books".

In a press release, Nickelodeon says Seven Havens will be set in a world “shattered by a devastating cataclysm. A young Earthbender discovers she’s the new Avatar after Korra - but in this dangerous era, that title marks her as humanity’s destroyer, not its savior. Hunted by both human and spirit enemies, she and her long-lost twin must uncover their mysterious origins and save the Seven Havens before civilization’s last strongholds collapse.”

I really enjoyed both The Last Airbender and Legend of Korra, so I'm looking forward to this. I know they've been talking about doing more with the franchise, so it's nice to see that finally happening.
 
I'm surprised there isn't more of a reaction to this news, I thought we had a lot of Last Airbender and Korra fans on here.

The Earthbender is named Pavi, her pet is a cat monkey named Geet, and the other character is her Airbender mentor Jae. The city is their hometown Allura.
Pavi is the new Avatar, but in this era the Avatar is viewed as humanity's destroyer rather than it's savior. She'll be hunted by both human and spirit enemies, will team up with her long lost twin to save the Seven Havens "before civilization's last stronghold's collapse".
Definitely sounds like it could be interesting, and I haven't been disappointed in an Avatar series yet.

Note that Pavi has a wooden leg, and I gather there's concept art showing her with a more advanced metal prosthetic. Given that she's the Avatar after Korra, and Korra's era corresponded to the 1920s or so technologically, it follows that Pavi's era would probably be late 20th century and might have had fairly advanced technology before the cataclysm.

See, this is what bugs me about post-apocalyptic science fiction. It tends to feel like an excuse to avoid speculating about future progress by having the world regress to a more primitive state. I would've liked to see what the space age would look like in the Avatar world, but it looks like that won't be happening. (Although, admittedly, a franchise called Avatar doing space travel might run afoul of James Cameron's lawyers, even though the animated series used the name first.)
 
I didn't think about that, but that is disappointing, I would love to see what a more modern version of the Avatar world is like.
 
As someone who hated Korra's worlds technology (they basically had hundreds of years of tech progress between Aang and Korra, which was stupid) I'd love to see them "reset" back to the tech level of around the first Avatar show. Having cars and 1920s New York in the Avatar universe was just ridiculous, in my opinion.

That said, unless they revert what Korra did

Erasing all the past Avatars and making Korra the only Avatar

I'll never watch the new show regardless. Still, going back to basics when it comes to the world is a good idea.
 
The whole way they worked bending into a more modern world was of my favorite things about The Legend of Korra. I loved all of the different technologies they introduced, and stuff like the pro-bending games.
