Spoilers What If...? season three discussion thread

Another more serious episode, but was better than yesterday's. The little western twists they put on things were fun, like Kate being a sharpshooter instead of an archer, and the twist on the ten rings was pretty good. Of course Walton Goggins' character had to show up in the western episode.
It was pretty obvious that Xialing was going to be The Hood, just because that's how these kind of things tend to play out. I was a little surprised they introduced an alternate version of The Hood before we met the Sacred Timeline version in Ironheart. The fact that we had the Riri focused episode last week, and The Hood this week makes me wonder if Ironheart was going to air earlier this year when they set these episodes up.

The Eminence is an interesting name. Sounds like a Doctor Who villain.
An enjoyable setup episode but the team seems to be missing some members. Where’s their Doctor Strange for one.

3.6 - I like that it told a complete story and used its setting well, up there with the Red Guardian one as the best of the season. Having Simu Liu and Hailee Steinfeld voice their characters helped. It's a shame this is the closest thing we'll get to a Shang-Chi sequel until like 2028 or something.

3.7 - It was weird that they didn't do much to introduce Storm at all. It felt like an episode got cut. Natasha Lyonne as Howard's daughter is good casting. But this wasn't much as an episode on its own.

Fantastic episode. I would love to watch a series focused on the adventures of Captain Carter, Kahhori, Byrdie, and Storm. As longtime fan of hers, I loved how naturally Natasha Lyonne fits in this world of chaos and craziness. I need more of her in the MCU!

Curious turn when Kahhori reasoned Infinity Ultron might be their only play to help Uatu (and that was before they realized other Watchers were the threat...). For a moment, I thought she was going to suggest Strange Supreme, regardless of his fate in season two but I quickly realized that couldn't be the case mostly because I didn't see Benedict Cumberbatch's name in the credits. Despite Strange's fate, it would be sad to see the end of the series without some kind of return, so perhaps anything is possible.

Either way, I love the idea that an Infinity Ultron could become lonely after eons without life in the cosmos...but I'm still wary whether or not our heroes can fully trust him.

Since Byrdie's appearance seems to be based on Lyonne's, I wonder if she'll pop up in live action? Maybe in FF: First Steps since Lyonne is in that.
I can only hope and pray and beg that'll happen.

...and I did get a kick out of the alternate opening narration by The Eminence instead of Uatu.
Yup, that was a nice treat.

The crazy "shoulder pads" on Ultron made me think of the Beyonder.
What would've been really cool, since Laurence Fishbourne was already involved this season, is if he reprised his role as The Beyonder from Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur.

Alas...

(Still pissed the show has been canceled)

Last episode got very Dragon Ball like. All that was missing was The Eminence calling them “filthy mortals”.

It’s a shame it’s ending here. This was like the only consistent show Disney Plus had, plus there are so many stories they could tell.

Weakest season of the three. I was very disappointed. I said it before but I always hoped this series would lean more into the stories the comics told. What they did here was boring.

Would have liked them to visit the actual 616 universe. That would have been a interesting idea

I was a bit disappointed that the whole thing devolved into a cosmic slugfest that didn't really have much consequences once our heroes gained the powers of the Watchers. That said, I was amused by Peggy's "Puny god" moment with either the Incarnate or the Executioner (honestly, hard to tell any of them apart once disarmed) as well as when the Watchers trio cosplayed the Living Tribunal.

Ultimately, the finale didn't have much of a story aside from Uatu's backstory and his attempts to convince the Eminence of the goodness of his newfound mission, before Peggy's sacrifice forced the point with an assist from Strange Supreme. At least I got my wish with the latter making an appearance, if only in the form of a silent cameo.

Overall, a somewhat somber ending to an otherwise great series. I still wish the should could go on for many seasons, much like Lower Decks. I agree with what others have said that show should have focused on individual alternate histories with no arcing storyline. I didn't mind it for the first season but after that, the show should've stuck with individual episodes, with the occasional sequel (such as Peggy and Darcy/Howard).

It would have been nice if it hadn't devoted so much of it's run time to the big fight, but the big fight was pretty cool. I do like the Exiles getting Watcher powers, but I am disappointed that Peggy sacrificed herself, I was hoping she'd survive and we'd possibly get a live action appearance at some point. I know we got a Capt. Carter in Multiverse of Madness, but thankfully that wasn't this Capt. Carter.

The big fight in the finale definitely dragged on way too long and brought down what was otherwise a mostly satisfactory ending.
