Bad encounters with cast members

I'm afraid the following only seems fair play. . .

Sweet. I think you've been working on that a bit longer than me:)

Nearly 16 years.

A bit longer than my 6 months :)

That's really cool. How did you decide who to sign? Did you get everybody in Trek you came across or did you limit yourself to main cast / recurring?

I'm getting all TOS but only main cast / recurring for the other series, or major film roles, hence my having Christopher Lloyd but deciding not to pay for Jonathon Rhys Davies.

Those posters must be worth a fortune.

I saw one guy at three different cons this year wearing a yellow TOS command shirt covered in autographs. I couldn't believe it. The amount he must have spent on the autographs and he wears the shirt to every event? I can't imagine how bad that shirt must have stunk. You can't wash it....

Whose signature is above Takei's?

Gwyneth Walsh (left) / LeVar Burton (right)

Serious props to anyone who can give me a full listing, although there's one on there in the top left that doesn't show up, and that's Jenette Goldstein.

By the way, I don't have a full listing! Used to have one, but it's long lost in the mist of time.

It's main cast, and notable extras. Didn't bother with Christopher Lloyd last weekend. £40 I didn't need to spend, I just don't have the room. Have been limiting who goes on there for a while, but I've not been an event regular for a long time as it's rare anyone not on there comes to the UK. Would like to get Malcolm McDowell on it. Missed him twice now, so doubt it will happen.

Fabreeze will cut down the stench, but it won't get the dirt and grime out. :barf2:

I hear freezing your clothes will kill bacteria, but, yeah, you still end up with the same issue. My poster is in a frame on my wall out of direct sunlight, I'm horrified enough of damaging it when I roll it up in a tube to take it for more signatures, let alone wearing it:)

He may have them sign with a pen that marks fabrics permanently. They market them for parents of small children and children of elderly parents, so their clothing doesn't get lost.

Someone above asked why all celebrities are jerks or some such. Almost all I have met have not been. I met Gene Kelley by himself in a hallway in U-Mich School of Music and told him how much his work had blessed my life. He thanked me nicely.

Worked at a venue in Detroit that hosted country and R/B acts. I remember literally no bad encounters other than the sweaty drummer from Alabama running me over to go pee before an encore. And my wife is a big Alabama fan, so that was actually a good thing. Jermaine Jackson was especially nice and stood at a back gate signing until all fans were gone. Dottie West put on electrician's gloves to sing in the rain (mic holding could get ya fried, I guess). I shuttled stars around and never - never- had one yell at me like I was dirt. Maybe be distant or asleep (Kris Kristofferson), but literally never rude. Granted, these were not con situations which sound hellacious to me both as a fan, and if I were signing hundreds of items .

Aye. I've met hundreds, from z listers to US Presidents and the Queen. I've had very few bad encounters. Some have been a bit moody or aloof (Gillian Anderson and Kevin Spacey immediately come to mind) but overall most have been fine and I think sometimes people need to appreciate that if you're catching these people before or during a work engagement they might be tired or stressed, and if you're catching them on the street it might sometimes get tiresome with people always coming up to you. So it's only really those who are out and out arseholes that I think you can really say anything bad about. The only one that comes to mind in that regard is one only Brits will know, and that's Chris Tarrant, the former host of Who Wants to be a Millionaire? Now there's a guy who was a complete tosser. No bad experiences generally with Trek actors, although Jonathan Frakes and Michael Dorn were both a bit moody.

Walter Koenig (at a convention in 1996, he came down and sat on our Star Trek group's table during the party, contributing to the pile of pint glasses steadily building up in the middle of the table.)
Was that at the Hammersmith Palais? I hated that party as they were just letting regular clubbers in.

Michael Dorn's well known for being generally fed up and disinterested at appearances. I think he got tired of doing Trek cons a long time ago. Frakes was moody the first time I met him. Jet lagged I think. He was much more his usual ebullient self the second time I met him. The only really miserable bastards I've ever met from Trek were Walter Koenig and Ethan Phillips. Got a mouthful from the former at my first ever event after asking him if he could write a 3 word inscription on a photo. Shatner was still as uncommunicative as ever last weekend in Birmingham, but I did at least get two words out of him. If he talked to Trek fans half as much as he talks on twitter, he'd probably be more fun.

I found he talks a lot to certain trek fans. Young kids, to his credit, get a great experience. Young, attractive women, to his discredit, get a creepy amount of attention. One of his handlers looked to be a teenager, said she'd been working for him since she was 15 and recently got promoted to work the desk with him.

Everyone else pays for an autograph and gets an autograph - although he'll personalize with whatever you want (within reason), unlike some people. He did let me tell him something g quick the first time I met him, although he visibly wanted to move on.

I witnessed an Enterprise cast member perfunctorily brush off the male fans in a line just to hit on young female fans, he was pretty drunk from the look of him. I know it takes two to tango, but I really have no time for Trek cast members, producers etc who use Trek connections to sleep with fans.

I think I know which cast member you speak of, but I won't mention the name. I actually had the pleasure of meeting him at Starbase Indy last year. Saturday morning, I went to his table to say hi. I could tell that he was totally wasted/hung over. He was very moody and quite cranky. Later that afternoon, I got to have my photo opp with him. After the photo was taken... He said to me not to be shy. Yes I was a bit quiet around him because it was my first convention, and I didn't want to say anything to push his buttons since he was hung over. As I waited for my photo, he sat in the chair, with his head between his legs. I hate to say this, but I absolutely felt sorry for him. On Sunday, I had a very different experience with him. I went to say goodbye to him. He seemed very pleasant to speak with. He was surprised that I was leaving. After talking with him for a few moments, I started to leave the room. As I left, he blew me kisses while saying goodbye.

Sounds like Dominic Keating!

When we saw him, he was drunk as hell, but having a good time, and enjoying everyone's attention.

He was not inappropriate with anyone, but he was three sheets to the wind.
