Better writing. Stories we care about. Characters we care about (besides sheppard and ronnan, I have not attachment to any of the characters). Characters who are not annoying (McKay and that other scientist, Teyla). Hopefully the show runners and writers will learn a lesson from Atlantis and the Universe will be better. I own Seasons 1-10 of Sg1 and both movies. I do not own any of Atlantis.

Better bad guys.
Part of SG1's appeal was the Goa-ould threat to Earth,and the fact that they had to combat an entrenched enemy with technological and numerical superiority with C4 and prayer,on occasion.
And we were able to see the charachters develop from these circumstances into ' SG1' THE team.
Missing from Atlantis too is the occasional 'moral villian',like the archeologist in
'Window of Opprotunity' who only caused SG1 problems from his own greif,and it allowed us too see that the universe is less black and white than we think.
The Wraith don't make good bad guys,the reason being this:If they made such short work of the Ancients,we wouldn't have lasted long at all in one of the losing sides outposts.
And we woke them up,whereas SG1 had to play the hand it was dealt by the Goa-ould's inevitable arrival.

Anyway this is a nice break from Heroes-bashing. As bad as that show gets, at least it has a little bit of ambition and doesn't just coast along for years and years and frakking years.
