Ash vs Evil Dead (new tv series)

I was just in stitches for the whole episode, they really have captured everything great about the movies.

I was originally worried when they said 30 minutes that they actually meant 21 minutes, but 30 minutes is just right.

While I was excited for this show when it was first announced. You just never know how a movie series is going to translate into a weekly television show. Well I was hooked within the first few minutes of the opening episode. This is the Ash I remember from the movies and Bruce Campbell just slides effortlessly back into the role. If you told me he hasn't played this character in over 20 years I wouldn't have believed you.

Also, I just love the show, Pablo is great, and so is Kelly. I understand why they have the B story with the cop and Lucy Lawless, and it works for the most part, but I can't wait till both storylines meet up.

It's probably just me, but I've been drawing parallels between this team and Space Ghost; that is, both older, bigger, tougher heroes have booming manly voices, both have young male and female sidekicks (who'll probably need to be rescued more often than not), and both even have a team pet mascot. And of course, both main heroes have unbelievable chins.

So I like to think of this as some dynamics can potentially be the same, only one is far more demented.

Well they managed to keep the suspence over Ash's paranoia going nicely, the awkward dinner was hilarious, a lot of great stunt work and tons of blood again.

Boomstick-cam was a bit odd and I'm not sure they should use it too often but it worked for the episode.

The comedy is still one of the best elements of the show and I'd actually say they've improved on Army of Darkness there, playing it more subtle when needed and making the over the top stuff work better.

The junior deadite killing brigade is growing on me, they're fairing a lot better than most people Ash has been around over the years.

Still, fork to the eye, ouch.

I'm assuming he's referring to Ash's pet Iguana.

D'OH! Of course! They even had a great bit with Ash pulling a "morsel" of splattered gore (possibly brains) from his hair and feeding it to the lil' guy! Now, I realize the Deadites are demon possessed, not really "zombies", but still, I had this horrible thought of the lizard "turning" after eating that "nugget".

Sincerely,

Bill

Thanks for the distinction. (I haven't seen the films)

So when Ash cut off his hand, it was to prevent the possession from spreading like an infection?

ETA: Saw Bruce and Lucy on the Colbert show tonight. Lucy had Bruce put on his glasses and do his Colbert impersonation. :bolian:

Speaking of Bruce's sartorial style... loved his color choice of jacket, but even more his choice of socks and shoes! :guffaw:

*Goes off to find video on YouTube*

Bruce is just... No words! I barely recognized Lucy. It's been a while since she went blonde though.
