Ash vs Evil Dead (new tv series)

Nice article on why you should watch AvED.

I think he wrote ^^ that article just so he could use this next line. :vulcan:

The Deadites themselves are incredible looking. The production values, make-up, special effects—it’s all to die for. :rommie:

The encouraging thing about the above article, he claims the 2nd ep is as good as the 1st.

Don't have STARZ and want to check out AvED for free?

Halloween was a particularly special occasion for horror diehards this year, thanks to the premiere of the highly-anticipated new series from Sam Raimi, Ash vs. Evil Dead. But don’t worry — if you missed out on the momentous event, Starz has got you covered: The first episode of the horror comedy series was posted on the official Ash vs. Evil Dead Facebook page for anyone to stream, free of charge.

Great interview with Sam about AvED.

Sam and eventually Bruce this time.

^^ Sweet. I have a friend who wants to see it, but doesn't have Starz. Too bad it's only the first episode.

Judging from just the trailers, I loved how there was a mix of your usual Deadites along with newer threats, like a slick white Deadite that looked like a mix between a gray alien, a cenobite, and something from Pan's Labyrinth. I'm looking forward to the variety that Ash will have to go up against, with this old, tired warhorse of a hero fighting modern and creative threats -- a hero very much cut from the sarcastic 80s mold vs. 21st century evil. Seeing Ash out of his element would be fun, but it also means that he can handle (almost) anything.

A "one afternoon" exercise I did last Saturday after watching the Marathon the previous night. The goal, creating Ash starting with a Poser base figure. Amazingly, I had all the content already on my disk drive except of a chainsaw and a shotgun mesh. And I found those in relatively short order. Yeah, the saw is not screen accurate. It was a case of "meh, close enough," without throwing it into a modeler and tearing apart the polygons. I chose a very old DAZ figure, Michael 2, over one of the newer figures because the default features were already a bit "chiseled" and served as a better starting point for Bruce Campbell's distinctive profile.

Sincerely,

Bill

Pablo is sneaky... just not as sneaky as Kelly's deadite mom!

NEVER look in the rear view mirror when escaping deadites. :wtf:

And NEVER get into a car without checking the back seat while escaping deadites.

Ash should know better. :scream:

Another great episode. I don't think we have to worry too much about the quality of episodes not directed by Raimi. He's likely more than involved enough.

Pablo is a perfect character. They really nailed him. Kelly is fine too, just like a young Ash.

Gotta love the blood splatter scenes. At some point I almost hope we see a stagehand just throwing a bucket of blood at the actors.

Love the giant-chin police artist sketch of Ash. He looks way dumber in real life.

"Don't know his name, but he was always a real asshole to me and my wife. And our kids. And pretty much anyone else around."

And "the lullaby" makes a return! Kelly's mother was a tough ol' bird! Ash had to really work that chainsaw to cut through her neck.

Merciful Mogg! I can't believe I'm typing stuff like this! :wtf:

Sincerely,

Bill

Here's AvED's showrunner talking Ash and what its like joining the unholy trinity of Josh, Rob and Bruce.

Lucy talks AvED and why its funny that Ash is in his late 50's.

She’s kind of the practical one, whereas he’s still very immature.

He’s a man-child, isn’t he? I think it was the right time to make the show. Ash at 45 is nowhere near as funny as him at 50-something. It’s hilarious that he has dentures. Ash has dentures! ...

I loved the part where Ash and Pablo burst into Kelly's house, ready to kick some Deadite butt, and all was normal!

The episodes go by so fast though. It's been a while since I've watched a channel with no commercials.

great episode. i loved the dinner scene. and the mom was played by Mimi Rogers. i haven't seen her in anything in ages.

^^ I think I saw her in the previews.

And this was another fantastic episode. The actors, the dialogue, the direction, the humor, the scares, the drama-- even the cinematography. The shots of the house and the windmill in the foggy night and the dawn's early light were beautiful. I love the color saturation. It's like an EC Comic come to life. :rommie:

Poor Kelly really got kicked around in this episode. :( Now both of her parents are dead and she's severely traumatized. Meanwhile, the wounded police officer and Lucy Lawless are both closing in on Ash. I wonder what will happen when everyone collides.

Another great episode. I don't think we have to worry too much about the quality of episodes not directed by Raimi. He's likely more than involved enough.

There didn't seem to be nearly as many clever and unique shots as in Raimi's episode in my opinion, but the basic look and feel was about the same (with plenty of extreme close ups and jump cuts) so I think it'll work well enough.
