Ash vs Evil Dead (new tv series)

I wonder if Ruby is a villain? She seemed to take pleasure in making that Deadite suffer. Ash would have killed it as quick as he could. She wants the book. But why does she want it?

I can't remember if they've revealed Ruby's last name in the show yet, but on press releases and imdb, her name is...
...Knowby, like the Professor from the first movie and his daughter in who was killed in the second movie. She probably wants the book because of all that it's taken away from her family. After all, Prof. Knowby is the one who started this whole thing in the first place.

It's pretty neat that she seems to have the Kandarian Dagger from the first two movies, too.

Annie died in Evil Dead 2 though, stabbed in the back by Ashes hand carrying the dagger, and she was the one that opened the portal to send Ash to 1300 AD.

Unless she survived and that's why she has it?

Edit:
I just did a little digging and Sarah Berry was born in 1960, Lucy in 1968, the ages aren't so very far off but still, eeeeh not sure if close enough in looks.

Episode 3 was another very good episode. Ash's solution to find a way to reverse what he did was hilariously stupid, and fit the character very well. The demon was weird and creepy, although the glass throwing effect it did to the book store owner was horrible, and I could swear we see the glass cuts on the book guy's face before the CG glass hits him. Still, a few dodgy effects aren't a big deal. It was another fun (and funny) episode.

It's more likely that Ruby is Annie's younger sister, I think.

"The book is harmless unless wielded by someone very evil or very stupid."

Reminded me of a cenobite from Hellraiser.

Not sure what it was doing to them, with Pablo it was just rupturing blood vessels, but with Ash it was looking for something?
Oh, yeah, I forgot about that. It looked like the demon was giving them little aneurysms. Just what Ash needs: Less brain cells. :rommie:

I'm thinking she's some kind of Slayer of the EvildDeadverse (as in Buffy).

Knowby wasn't exactly all that young, and like IMBD says Lucy is 8 years older than Sarah, so her being the big sister would work better. And also explain so much that she's tracking down the man and the book that killed her little sister.

I love Ash's reaction to that line.

And yeah, it does actually. Hellraiser is the modern day Inferno for inspiration on the nature of hell in fiction.

It was unhooking and pinching certain nerves, given how specific they were I feel like this is a setup for something later in the season.

Wait a tic, your first post said Sarah was older than Lucy by 8 years, and that's why I speculated that Lucy was the younger sister. If it's the other way around, then so be it.

There's a discrepancy, in that imdb says Sarah was born in 1960, but Google says 1969. But in any case, whoever's older or younger, I'd still speculate that they're sisters of some sort.

Yes, rereading it, it was the wrong way around. It all depends on if this rumour is true at all though.

And it could and most likely will be a new character. Either way I expect more mythology on the knife itself.

That was a cool effect, hadn't really seen anything quite like that before.
I have seen something like it before, but I forget where. I'm thinking Pushing Daisies maybe?

I got the impression that it was snapping neurons in order to remove memories, but that's mostly a guess.

Did they say the demon's name after that sequence? Maybe it was removing that information, so they'd be unable to cast it back.

Can I just say that I love the fact that Ash fought something that never would have appeared in the original trilogy? Horror and monsters evolve, but one of the vital things that a revival should do is have the old hero face newer, graver, and more varied threats. It makes Ash that much more enduring and shows how he stands the test of time, but it also parallels his ineptitude in dealing with other struggles that come with time itself (social norms like gender, the others poking fun at his age, etc).
