Archer In Trek 08?

I suppose I have to say something about remaining on topic.
This thread really isn't for a debate on the merits of Janeway in Nemesis.
Why don't you guys start a thread in Trek Movies for that? I bet it'd be a popular topic.

Quite right.
I don't feel the need to see Jonathan Archer in the new Star Trek movie. A subtle and offhand remark, or image, (probably) wouldn't hurt the film, but if they're in any way approaching a 'reboot' then I think booting out Enterprise from canon would be as good a place to start as any.

"Enterprise" will not be rebooted out of canon because we know for a fact "Enterprise" will be referenced in Star Trek XI. We just don't know how. I personally don't think this movie is a reboot, anyway.
True, there is no need to have Archer in the movie, but what would the harm be? For fans of "Enterprise," it will be great. For people who don't care about Archer, just get over it. All five series will be referenced in this movie. I very much dislike DS9 and Voyager, but I'm not going to bitch about it. I didn't care for Janeway being in Nemesis, but I didn't lose sleep over it, either. If anything I was happy for the fans of Voyager who got that little gift (NOT valentine.) To the fans of those shows, enjoy what you will see in Trek XI.
I still think T'Pol has a much better chance of being in the movie. It's not like Jolene Blalock is doing anything. Scott Bakula is actually quite busy.

No intrinsic harm, it depends entirely on how it's worked out. The danger of including so many little references to all things Trek is that (to the knowledgable Star Trek fan) the movie will seem ridiculously contrived.
And can you not likewise "just get over" Archer being absent?
I'm apparently not going to get to see William Shatner portray Captain Kirk one last time. I'm apparently not going to see the Enterprise in all its TOS glory (i.e. untainted by modern revisionism.) Why should you expect to see Jonathan Archer?

Well, TOS fans (and I include myself in that category, and speaking only for myself) are getting Leonard, himself, as his TOS character. We're getting new actors in familiar roles (Kirk, Spock, McCoy, ...). We're getting an Enterprise that, at least from the teaser, reasonably recreates the look of the TOS Enterprise. We are, from some reports at least, getting passing recreations of the TOS uniforms.
I don't mind that they throw ST:ENT fans a bone or two... particularly since the series purports to show events and characters that pre-date the events in TOS -- and, elements of the storyline, as suggested by the characters identified to date, are going to also pre-date the years portrayed in TOS.

The movie is called STAR TREK, not THE ORIGINAL SERIES. It might be based around the timeline of the Original series but that doesnt mean Enterprise cant get a mention or cameo.
