Spoilers Agents of SHIELD- The Final Season Discussion

If Daisy doesn't blink out of existence, then timelines don't matter and their real mission is to just go home.

^That argument was settled when Deke didn't blink out when the planet didn't get smashed...also in 'Endgame'.
So after seeing the latest episode...
Daisy not blinking out of existence seems to confirm what a lot of people thought. That AoS IS going by Infinity War/Endgame's time travel rules and has been (pre-planned or not) the whole fucking time.

The team ended up in another timeline when they returned from 2091. And now God knows how many timelines they've ended up in this year. Daisy's still with us for the same reason that Deke's still with us. Their original timelines with their original parents still exist out there somewhere.

And this was even confirmed way back when. Remember that Deke's timeline didn't blink out of existence when the team left to change the future. We saw Flint and Tess continue on well past that point.
All timelines exist all the time everywhere. Remember that time is just an illusion; how we perceive the 4th dimension.

But yes, I'm sticking by my suspicion from a few weeks back that they're systematically removing or neutralising all of the series original characters from the timeline, so by the end they'll be temporal refugees like Deke in the actual MCU timeline with the twist being this has all been in an alternate universe the whole time. The line about the Triskelion might make or break this theory depending on when it was built in the "original" timeline. We saw it still under construction in '89 in 'Ant-Man', but since most of that thing was underground it could have taken years to get it to that stage...

Ugh, I dislike the evil team so much!

that preview is just another gut punch... after having to see Gordon and Jaying biting the dust in this one :(
Souza urging Daisy to talk to her Mom Jaying was a nice touch. Timeline is screwed anyway.
Daisy's big quake still might be ahead, too bad they didn't let ler her unleash the powers.

I hope for a quick solution to the story arc, so we can get some quality time with the main characters wherever they will land/be.

I've been dreading that outcome, and I was thinking the line about the Triskelion definitively put it to bed (though it was already a bit of a stretch that in the MCU, there was a forgotten Insight 1.0 project from the '70s, and that the greatest hits of the 1980s all came from one band), though...
...I heard on another board that one of the season promos has the Triskelion being destroyed, so it could be being rebuilt in '89.

My heart goes out to Daisy. On the heels of the hellish experience of the time loop, she got to reunite with her mother, a version of her mother who wasn't literally torn to pieces and twisted into an angry, vengeful woman, a mother who doesn't know who Daisy is. The reunion, while one sided, was a beautiful moment for Daisy to see who her mother use to be and could have been for her. But before she told Jiaying that she's her daughter from the future, the fucking asshole that is Nathaniel showed up, told the cliff notes of Jiaying's wretched future...and then killed her. If May hadn't showed up, I was certain Daisy was going to unleash all unholy hell onto Nathaniel, even if it meant bringing the lighthouse right down on top of themselves. My heart breaks for Daisy that her reunion was cut off short and that Jiaying didn't even get the chance to properly process the truth of her future version harming Daisy, her daughter.

I should have seen it coming that Nathaniel didn't actually want Jiaying or even Daisy, but it was actually Simmons, for Sibyl's sake. I started to really believe Simmons' postulation that perhaps Fitz is in fact dead (spurned on by what Daisy told her earlier about one of the time loop iterations), but now it seems certain that Fitz is alive. Or at least Sibyl seems to think so. Question is why can't Sibyl see in the timestream where Fitz is located and instead needs Simmons to lead them to him (despite the fact Simmons seemingly doesn't know where to go).

I'm sorry to see Gordon die, too, but considering the rest of the timeline is completely fucked, it's not so surprising. And fucking John Garrett has Gordon's powers. It's a shame we didn't have the opportunity for Bill Paxton to return. We all know he would've returned and it would've been wonderful. Whoever is playing the younger, far cockier version of Garrett has very big shoes to fill and so far he ain't doing all that good (too one-dimensionally slimy and cocky).

It's crazy that we only have three episodes left. It doesn't seem like it's even remotely close to ending, resolving the massively-fucked timeline, and give all of our heroes the proper farewell they all richly deserve.

Ah, I didn't know that. Cool that he gets to play one of his father's well-known characters as a way to honor his legacy.

Still...I wasn't impressed. :p

When I first watched I thought that this young version of John Garrett was pretty over the top. Then I thought more about it and realized that I don't think James Paxton was playing a young John Garrett as much as he was playing a young BILL PAXTON.

If you look at how he talked, reacted, etc... He was pretty similar to his Dad in Aliens.

Didn't we already know that? Mac remembered July 4th with his family despite his parents getting killed.

true but Mack was alive and kicking before his parents were killed by chronicons.

Had Jaiying died at the same point in the prime (for want of a better term) timeline, Daisy would never have been born.

And that's why time travel always gave Janeway a headache :)

Fair point...but he should be playing young John Garrett not young Bill Paxton. ;)

If that's the case then the MCU has just become a massive confusing mess. I'm not sure if that is a good thing or not.

They have made so many changes in so many timelines that really, it's a matter of somehow finding their own universe. That's a big problem with Marvel time travel.

But yes, I'm sticking by my suspicion from a few weeks back that they're systematically removing or neutralising all of the series original characters from the timeline, so by the end they'll be temporal refugees like Deke in the actual MCU timeline with the twist being this has all been in an alternate universe the whole time.

That would be kind of interesting. Maybe in the end, the only one we know exists is Coulson. It would also explain the lack of Thanos' snap.

It's not just Daisy that will have issues if they ever get to 2020. Mac is now growing up without his parents and will have a different life. Would he still be in SHIELD? And even if he is, will there be two Macs in 2020?

Think the end of Continuum.

The only way they get back to 2019/20 and they don't all have duplicates is if 1) the duplicates all died, or 2) the duplicates all disappeared to go back in time to save the world...

All of that would be true whether they changed the course of events or not.

I think they will all be split up. Deke will go back to the 80's. Jemma and Ftiz will be reunited in the future. Mack and Yo Yo will find themselves in the altered present day where Shield no longer exists but Mack's daughter is still alive. They choose to live regular ordinary lives. Daisey takes charge of a New Afterlife and Sousa goes with her to support her. Melinda May and Coulson both with the help of the Koeing Brothers and sister decide to bring back Shield in this universe hinting at future adventures of course we won't see. Maybe you even get to see Hunter and Bobbi and Deathlock being picked as their first recruits to go after. Even if it's not a cameo maybe a namedrop instead.

I finally remembered to watch this week's episode this morning.
It wasn't quite as good as last week's but it was still pretty enjoyable.
The scene with Daisy and her mother was great.
I'm disappointed that they killed Jiaying right after she learned who Daisy was. It would have been cool to see Daisy get to spend some time with a more stable, heroic version of her mother.
Gordon's death was disappointing too, I liked him.
I hadn't heard about Garret showing up, so that was a surprise. I do agree that James Paxton is a bit to over the top.
It will be interesting to see how they tie all of this up in two episodes. I was kind of hoping they would tie up this story up before the end, and then give us an episode or two that was focused on saying goodbye to all of the characters and giving their individual character arcs some closure.

You can never be sure in comic universes...
IF there is some kind of reset button after the big bad and their underlings have been dealt with and/or they end up in an alternate timeline I could see a version of Jaying being alive and seen in a scene with Daisy.
