Agents of SHIELD - Season 2 Discussion Threads. (Spoilers Likely)

^Seems to me that they're setting up Black Widow to be Hawkeye's love interest, in the MCU.
Hawkeye's been involved with the Black Widow since his first appearance

Gas Ward in the cell he is in without opening the door.

Wake him up in a new prison cell on the other side of the country.

It was moronic to let Ward be awake for a second of the transit between cells.

Unless Ward is on a mission for Coulson.

Slightly more likely that Coulson just tagged him knowing he'd escape. They got all they could out of him in a cell, on the loose he may just lead them to more Hydra cells.

Here's something I caught on a second viewing-- The HYDRA assassin who fought May with the whip that had the knife tied to the end? His name was Marcus Scarlotti, known as "Whiplash" in the comics. What makes that noteworthy is that Mickey Roarke's character Vanko in Iron Man 2 was a different incarnation of Whiplash.

Well, I guess that since there is more than one "Whiplash" in the comics, there isn't any reason there can't be more than one in the MCU. (Of course, neither character was actually called "Whiplash" in the MCU.)

^^ Good catch.

This was the most interesting Ward has been since HYDRA came out of the closet, thanks to his brother. I have no idea which of them is lying. I have a feeling that, somehow, it will be both.

I loved Coulson's little speech to Ward and Ward's march down the corridor past the team, especially Simmons' threat. But if that was the FBI taking Ward into custody, doesn't that mean their secret base is no longer much of a secret?

Looks like Talbot is finally wising up. I'm glad it didn't take too long.

Vanko was also the Crimson Dynamo in the comics originally (and his suit at the end is closer to that version). They essentially combined Whiplash and Crimson Dynamo in the movie. But doing that meant that Scarlotti was extremely unlikely to appear in a movie. That made him a good candidate for Agents of SHIELD. And, while he didn't do a lot, that knife on a string thing was clearly a small tribute to the character (in addition to making for a cool fight scene).

It was also moronic to put Ward in standard handcuffs that any rinky-dink TV bad guy could get out of, in a universe where those cool arm-encompassing solid adamantium power-draining manacles exist. They could have at least used cable ties!

What manacles are you talking about? I don't remember ever seeing them in a MCU movie. Adamantium is tied up in the X-Men license, and even Loki wore standard handcuffs in The Avengers.

:wtf:
We're limited to talking about things specifically already seen in the films and TV show? Where was that rule stated?
Such manacles have been used a billion times in the various Marvel comic books for decades. Why would I have to research TV and movie licenses before making my snarky comments on a message board about a comic book universe?

In case you guys are interested, the weapon he used is called a Kyoketsu-shoge.

^ Very cool

Well, snarky comments are fine as long as it isn't intended as serious criticism. But, if it's intended as serious criticism, it's very misplaced to criticize the lack of something that's never been established to be in the MCU as if it's a plot hole.

Adrianne Policki is 6'5"???!!! Clark Gregg mentioned this while live tweeting AoS on Tuesday. Good lord. Wonder if she auditioned for Wonder Woman? When she went to hug the Sheild agent, (brother with the shaved head), he was noticibly taller. If she is 6'5", he must be 6'6, 6'7.

No wonder Fitz was intimidated.

No. She's 5'11.

Another great episode. I can't decide if Sen. Ward is evil or not but as others said, we'll see.

Unless Ward is on a mission for Coulson.

I was thinking the same thing about knocking him out thinking to myself during that transfer scene "Ward could easily take those guys out."

What's Ward's agenda, now? Did he do what he did to escape you-know-who...or because he's been bad all along (except for his helping Skye)?

He'll probably become a third (maybe fourth) party with his own agenda, a mix between helping Skye, and stopping the things he set in motion. Is he redeemable? To me, no, but I bet he'll try to redeem himself.

I really like Talbot in this show. I hope he stays around.

Agreed.

Yes, it was another great episode. There is so much happening that I have nothing but questions. Is there more to both Ward's loyalty and agenda than what we're seeing? (And just who couldn't see Ward breaking out?), What else Coulson knows and isn't telling us? Is there another secret mission going on? They cover so much every hour it's hard for this old man to keep up, but I love it One person I am impressed with is Iain De Caestecker. I wasn't a great big fan of Fitz in season one, but De Caestecker's acting chops have really shown through this year and he's done a great job in portraying a 'damaged' Fitz.
