Agents of SHIELD - Season 2 Discussion Threads. (Spoilers Likely)

Pretty sure that Coulson's betting that Christian Ward is indeed what Grant claims, and for that reason wants him within squashing range in addition to any other plans he has in mind. Just in case.

Twice now, the phrase "a man trying to put his family back together" has been used to describe Skye's dad. Once from Skye's dad himself to Raina and again by Ward to Skye. You don't suppose he is literally trying to put his dead wife, Skye's mom, back together?

It'll be another season of people going for Skye's blood again. Can't they just want her for her. :p

Watched it tonight, very good episode. But, man, it was utterly stupid for them to transport ward conscious. They should know better and considering they've had him imprisoned all of this time they're not caring about his rights or liberties so why not knock him out, tie him and THEN transport him rather than just putting him in a simple pair of handcuff and then in the back of a standard prisoner transport van with a few inept guards.

Ward is on a mission for Coulson--it will be his attempt at redemption. He's still listed as a full cast member after all.

I'm back and forth about that. It seems like a possibility, but Coulson's hatred for him is real and it's hard to imagine Coulson deliberately allowing him to go free. Unless he implanted a bomb in his head or something.

I think Coulson knew Ward would attempt to escape (and probably succeed) the first chance he got, and fully expected him to do so. He knows Ward is far too dangerous and too capable to be safely transported with just a pair of simple handcuffs to restrain him. I think he's hoping Ward will lead him to something--or someone.

I agree and in addition to all the stuff Coulson blames Ward for, he also shot Lola. I don't think Coulson is ever going to trust Ward again.

Little does Ward realize there's a tracking chip implanted in his colon!

Those thoughts crossed my mind but what would be the point of letting him go? To let him go after his brother? To lead them to Hydra? They could do these things with him in captivity. The only thing Ward could do for the team is be a wild card against Hydra. He'll probably take out the threats he released to try to redeem himself, but beyond that, I think Ward genuinely just escaped.

I just apply Occams Razor to his deal with Sen. Ward. He had the power to legitimize SHIELD. Nothing Ward could give them would equal that. If Sen. Ward is evil and plans to do terrible things to Ward that is not Coulson's problem.
I'm sure Coulson plans to keep a close eye on the Senator, but that is easier to do if SHIELD is a legitimate organization rather than wanted terrorists.
As to Wards escape, I would have planted a tracker on him so I hope Coulson was that on the ball.
I guess we will see...

I had assumed Ward had just escaped, but I could see it being allowed as part of a bigger plan Coulson has. It is worth keeping in mind that the people who took Ward were working for his brother, so even if Coulson tried to warn them about him, they still might not have realized just how dangerous he was.
