7 and Chakotay did anyone see that coming???

seriously i always figured he'd end up wiv the captain :(

So did most people. It was an all-around shocker that's for sure. The silver lining is a J/C fanfiction movement that is still going strong. It probably would have petered out long ago if they got their happy ending on the show. ;)

J/C was never going to happen. I've been watching Trek since 1966, and the captains do not get married, except to the job.

I figured on C/7, because the two of them are the glamour couple.

sisco got married???? sure we saw lots of married captains. Geordi's mum for example

besides they were a long way from home.

just a shame that all

J/C was never going to happen as long as Voyager was in the Delta Quadrant. It would have been a disservice to Janeway's professionalism because Captains don't get involved with subordinates. As to seeing J/C coming it was kind of a surprise but I guess it makes at least a little sense.

armyofdaleks, I'm talking about the stars of the series captains, of course. Those characters have to remain dynamic. Other characters are more static and can have encumbrances on their mobility and relationships.

Sisko was unmarried through the bulk of the show, got married only near the end, and in the end, he left her to pursue his own destiny. Right in line with the other captains.

I see what you mean, that doesn't mean janeway and chakoty couldn't have hooked up in the end though???

Well, not in Star Trek, IMO. Personally, I would have liked to see Chakotay happy with whomever he was in love with.

In TV shows, when the main character gets hooked up with somebody -- and the show continues past that point, it seems like they mostly find a way to split them up or kill the lover off.

Alas, happy relationships don't have much tension, and stories thrive on tension.

I found Janeway and Chakotay to be incompatible personalities--she's larger than life, dramatic. He's quieter. Plus, she found it difficult to separate work from her personal life. In Scorpion, she was blantantly manipulative with her "Well, I guess I am alone."

C/7 struck me as plausible. I know it's not everyone's cuppa, and I know that posting this will get me a certain amount of "how childish! don't you know what a real adult relationship is?" from certain quarters, but I've written some fanfic that has been well-received. So here's the link:

And for the record, yes, I do know what a real adult relationship is, so don't bother going there. ;)

I generally try to forget the C/7 relationship and tend to fast forward through those scenes. It just feels wrong, like Chakotatay took advantage of Seven's innocence when it came to relationships.

I've always thought Seven and the Doctor would be a much more interesting couple.

I think J/C had nice chemistry, but IMO it would have been inappropriate for them to hook up. I might have liked C/7 if there had been any plausible build up. Seven's holodeck phantasies and a date in the last episode aren't enough to convince me that the two of them would make a good couple.

Our thoughts are one. :borg:

If Chakotay at some point showed he shared interest, then the pairing wouldn't seem so tacked on. However, I also agree with teya about C/7 being more compatible.

No

And that was precisely the problem.

That it was a relationship that came out of nowhere and made little sense.

It is the most absurd pairing ever in Star Trek.
