‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ Renewed for Fifth and Final Season

Space Adventure Hour? Since none of the characters in the holo were the SNW characters how can they be out of character?

Primarily Spock and La'an at the beginning and the end. Spock finding the sensuality of the dance and an attractive woman to be irresistible while he's engaged and two episodes after declaring his love for Chapel was wildly out of character for me. La'an just commented on him being in love with Chapel two episodes ago. I appreciate that a month is meant to have gone by but that should be nothing for a Vulcan who feels love as deeply as he told Uhura he did in Season 2. He spent 1.5 years developing a friendship with Chapel and six months trying to avoid her because he knew he was developing feelings which were inappropriate for an engaged man. Taking a break doesn't make him a free man and jumping into bed with an attractive woman should be easy for me. The whole romance was just so bizarre and out of character. It didn't help that it featured so much dancing which felt even more out of character for Spock. I think that this would have played so much better if they were friends. Two romances and one love triangle was enough, adding to it was crazy.

I agree that the holodeck characters were clearly supposed to be out of character so issues there as such. I didn't find them funny though and the murder mystery was confusing, boring and identical to Elementary Dear Data for me. The in jokes seemed to come at the cost of a funny story. I loved Bride of Chaotica from Voyager so that would be the model of a funny Holodeck episode for me. They were out of character there but in an intentionally melodramatic way that gave a lot of room for humour. Kate Mulgrew knocked that one out of the park.

I appreciate that others liked this episode, it was just my most hated of the season. I also found the timing odd as they had just rushed the flower to Batel to save her life...and we don't even hear about it in this episode.

I like Christina Chong and Ethan Peck so no disrespect intended. I would prefer to see La'an leading Star Fleet's fight against the Gorn and overcoming her fears about herself in doing so. If the writers want to give her a romance, continue with the season 2 buildup and give her something with Kirk - he loves casual
