‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ Renewed for Fifth and Final Season

I agree with Rahul, in this instance, more is better. I've always felt that 10 eps was not enough, especially when they want to do as many fluff eps as they've done. If S5 is to be the end, then it needs to be a serious, straightforward drive towards lining up with TOS.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad we'll get a fifth season, I had just hoped it would be more of a meal than a snack.

Look, even if no further series are ever made after Starfleet Academy (and Starfleet Scouts, if it happens), Star Trek is a monument. Of course we always want more; but if it the franchise ends, it’s still always going to have been a huge accomplishment.

(Likewise Doctor Who, which seems to be heading the same way, complete with just-announced kids’ animated show.)

What will be really telling:
Are they going to do a "Starfleet Academy" season 2? Or are they cutting expensive Trek in general?
The era of movie-costly high-profile streaming series seems to be ending, not just paramount+, also Netflix, Disney+,...

Tbh I think 6 episodes, but knowing in advance it's the end, is a hell of a lot better than 10 episodes, but then being surprised that it will be the finale & having to shoot an addendum on the fly.

Btw shout-out to Alex Kurtzman - I'm not a big fan of his creative output. But the guy knows how to convince the money-people to make some more cash loose to give things a proper closure.
None of his shows ever end in a cliffhanger that is never resolved.

This is glass-two-thirds-full to me. Do I want more seasons? Of course. Do I want more than six episodes for the final season? Yeah.

Am I glad that, even before the third season premiered, we learned that a fourth and fifth are guaranteed? Absolutely! It’s always good to know when something is ending before it’s cut short. Discovery and Lower Decks didn’t get that - though, they were both given the not-at-all-obligatory green light to add a bit more than usual, which is still cool. Prodigy, thankfully, ended on a fair enough note; but two seasons? Not at all the plan!

10 is a good number. It doesn’t need to be more.

12 would be nice, but I wouldn’t want more than that.

It isn’t being filmed yet, right? Cancelations do happen after formal renewals are established. But they’re relatively rare. We likely needn’t worry much about that, even with the ongoing uproar at Paramount. Just a sliver of a chance to bear in mind, I suppose.

I've accepted 10-13 episode seasons because that's pretty much the norm with streaming shows. I accepted that five seasons seems to be the ceiling when it comes to streaming shows. Unfortunate, but that's entirely an industry thing. Even Netflix can only stretch things out with STRANGER THINGS in spite of its popularity. But only 6 for the final season??? That's some BS. Just cough it up Paramount and be glad you ever had a fanbase that'll watch these.

If the money’s not there, the money’s not there.

If so, I'm being on 3 seasons in total for SFA, with a shorter season 3. I'm a betting man;)
It's Kurtzman's baby, 3 seasons a solid number, and bringing it to the same length as Picard can be counted as an achievement.

After that, it's Pandemonium with the Trek brand.
