The Least Disliked Episode 2025: ENT Season 1

Oh, I love "Vox Sola" and "Sleeping Dogs"! Those are my season one highlights.

I'll cut "Civilization" next, because it's what they were filming on 9/11 and damn do you see it in the performances.

Broken Bow
Fight or Flight
Breaking the Ice
Detained
Fallen Hero

"Fallen Hero" is a nightmare! Only on a show as rough as Enterprise could an episode this terrible still be around at the end. The plotting and story structure could not be more lazy, undynamic, and phoned in.

And it wastes a talent like Fionnula Flanagan, who is brilliant and given nothing worthwhile to play here.

Broken Bow
Breaking the Ice

I really like "BREAKING THE ICE" a lot.

It perfectly illustrates what season 1 of ENT had that was missing from the franchise for years... the pure joy and awe of exploration. The crew here really made you feel like every day was an adventure and was enjoying it. I missed that feeling.

It's one of the reasons why I feel season 1 is very highly underrated.

I honestly would have predicted Silent Enemy to have won. What twists and turns we take.
And it might have! If not for the counterpoint to those grim life-and-death A story stakes being "Hoshi, you know it's your obligation as a woman to organize the birthday cake." Do I fucking hate that B story. The way the show's attitude is that it actually is wrong of Hoshi to act like instead of this cake thing she should be doing... her actual job. How dare she not know her place! Ugh.

I need to rewatch "Breaking The Ice" for the finals I guess. It's been awhile and I may have only seen it once. My memories are vague but positive.

You know I actually forgot that was in that episode. Point well made, that is one hell of a bad b-plot. "I'm allergic to this food but I have somehow decided despite suffering adverse reactions that is my favourite food so I will take medication for it" and "this person takes medication for an allergy which happens to be found in this food therefore it must be their favourite food" are...not great logic trains. And it's very early to feel obligated to do something special for someone's birthday you've known them for what a couple of months? This isn't being done for crewman noname over there.

I'm fully convinced the b-plot revokes its right to be a winner. Thank god STO took the a-plot and made some fun with it.

I thought the B story to "SILENT ENEMY" was good. We get to learn more about Reed, and what his personality is. He tends to maintain distance by not letting people know even little things about himself, like a favorite food.

And I'm sure there are people out there who will find a way to eat their favorite food, even if it's a rarity, despite an allergy. (I can tell you that if I ever developed a lactose intolerance, I'd find a way to have my cheese.) Reed doing this also points to his stiff upper lip mentality, so I think it ties into who he is.
