JESUS CHRIST!
Exactly. You want "Thoughtful Sci-Fi"? Go read a book.
So what you are saying is that I should be thanking him even though I didn't really like his movies, because they "made money"
Relevant yes, in a nice mainstream popcorn-action movie way.
I'm British, and the idea of that vile toad setting foot on the same island as me makes me feel physically sick, but I think he's a pretty perfect fit for Star Wars so can't see him leaving the project.

Terrible News, Abrahms might be quitting Star Wars to return to Tr
Fuck that Nicholas Meyer for making Khan white! Mother fucker!!Popcorn shlock with a fucking white Khan is hardly an exciting direction for the franchise? Are we that defeated?
He did good with Star Trek 09, Into Darkness was passable but for the next one I want someone who can write an intelligent story, something that makes you think.
I dont think they were going anywhere, Bad Robot are still producing Star Trek with or without Abrams in the directors chair. Plus if another rumour on IGN is to be believed there are new writers being brought in with Orci & Kurtzman still involved.Aw, man, we were this close to ditching Orci and Kurtzman...

I'd say this quote 100% sums up why some find JJ Abrams's fanbase to be depressing. It's just.. so aggressively anti-thinking.
Sometimes people like to have fun, they like to enjoy what they're doing. I go to the movies to have fun. You might want to try it sometime

Even when it comes to brainless action movies, I'd say Skyfall, The Dark Knight Rises and The Avengers were much more enjoyable than Star Trek Into Darkness. It was a pretty lackluster action film, even compared to others it was competing with like Iron Man 3 or Man of Steel.

I'd rate the first 2 Star Trek films as thoughtful science-fiction, especially compared to what we were served this summer. People shouldn't only have to think while reading a book. Some of us quite enjoy thinking during films, actually.
But like.. it made loads of money. So wahey! Go JJ, you rock man! Pew, pew! Boom, boom! BUCKLE UP! FIRE EVERYTHING!
Which is fine, everyone has their own threshold for enjoyment of material. But quit trying to look down on others because they enjoy things that you don't.
It makes you immensely unlikable.
And calling Abrams a "vile toad", especially from someone who claims to be such a student of film history, is just hilarious.
Eh, I get shit on for not enjoying this crap all the time. Been called a virgin, homosexual, or whatever, and I'm supposed to just take it on the chin. Yet, whenever I decide to bite back the Abrams fans act ridiculously defensive.
Two wrongs don't make a right.
