Re: Terrible News, Abrahms might be quitting Star Wars to return to Tr

I'm British, and the idea of that vile toad setting foot on the same island as me makes me feel physically sick, but I think he's a pretty perfect fit for Star Wars so can't see him leaving the project.

I'm just glad we get rid of him for a few months
Again, just a guy who makes movies.

Don't carelessly dump him on us like he's some toxic waste product. Even if that is a perfectly valid description of him.

He's just a guy who makes movies. Its not like he's carrying the plague or making a play for the throne.

He's Aegon Targaryen come again, with his two sisters in destruction Orci and Kurtzman.

I will not bow.

Freys always bow and hold a grudge.

Hopefully we can arrange a wedding for Abrams to attend .

"Brannon Braga sends his regards!"

Re: Terrible News, Abrahms might be quitting Star Wars to return to Tr

The Freys will turn on themselves.

JESUS CHRIST!

Stop turning this into a Game of Thrones topic!:p

As long as Brannon Braga gets the same fate as Tywin Lannister.

Re: Terrible News, Abrahms might be quitting Star Wars to return to Tr

If the rumours on the IGN front page are true.

apparently Abrahms as thrown a hissy fit over Star Wars being shot in the UK, and wanted production moved to L.A so he could be near his family. WHAT!

Anyway they rightfully told him that wasn't happening and so now he might quit Star Wars and just stick with Trek.

Worst thing that can happen imo, he's perfect for Star Wars. He did good with Star Trek 09, Into Darkness was passable but for the next one I want someone who can write an intelligent story, something that makes you think.

1. The guy's name is Abrams. J.J. Abrams. If you're going to critique the man, at least spell his name correctly.

2. This should have been posted in the Trek XI+ forum.

3. How dare he want to be near his family. What an utter bastard.

4. He didn't write the stories. He just directed the movies. Damon Lindelof and Roberto Orci wrote the stories. He's also not going to write the stories for the Star Wars sequels. Someone else is going to do that. So you saying that Abrams can't write an intelligent story or something that makes you think is completely moot.

5. What the JJ-bashers don't seem to ever get is that it doesn't matter whether anyone personally likes him or not, or likes his movies or not. He and his crew were personally responsible for bringing Star Trek back into popularity again no matter what kind of intelligent or non-intelligent story his writers came up with. Thanks to these films, there's the best chance ever that CBS will bring back Trek to television one day. That would have never happened without these movies, or at least not in quite some time.

If this is true, good for Abrams. I respect the guy for wanting to be near his family. I don't like his Star Trek, but I can respect the man for picking his family over a boat load of cash.

Again, if there's any truth to this rumor.

Yes. That's what I think EVERYONE should realize.

As mentioned upthread, Abrams didn't write either Trek movie, but, as it seems few here are aware, he's not an untalented writer, having written Regarding Henry and Super 8, amongst a lot of other stuff.

Don't cloud the issue facts. This is the internet!!

Re: Terrible News, Abrahms might be quitting Star Wars to return to Tr

Who's asking you to do that?

...

The poster I was quoting. He said that people who dislike the current popcorn action movie direction should just be grateful it's making money. Which strikes me as a weird attitude. I'd rather the last movie tanked at the box office, yet was thought provoking and interesting.
Grateful it revived a dead franchise. Made it relevant again.

Just this one time I'm NOT gonna read the whole thread first.

Made it RELEVANT again?

The relevancy of the stories doesn't sink or stand on somebody getting some new juice out of exploiting the name.

What's relevant is that a good chunk of TOS told stories that will ALWAYS be relevant, REGARDLESS of whether it is trendy or popular to be into Trek at any given time.

Made the Franchise relevant. As in an on going concern that people are interested in.

Re: Terrible News, Abrahms might be quitting Star Wars to return to Tr

Christ. I am so sick of this anti-Abrams stuff. Will you guys just get over it? The man and his team successfully revived a DEAD franchise.

If he does or doesn't direct the next Star Wars and does return to Trek, or whatever happens, we should be thanking him for making Star Trek globally popular again. Making a movie is not easy. Making a big budget movie is not easy. Plenty of people do it and the movies flop. Abrams delivered two qualified successes. Can we just be grateful and stop with the "ZOMG this is TERRIBLE!" stuff?

+1

So childish. They were either going to re-boot Trek as an action sci-fi franchise or NOT AT ALL.

This BS about bringing it back as 'thoughtful sci-fi' (whatever that is) in the 21st century is just idiotic.

Looking at the big-budget flops this summer indicates how hard it is to know exactly what audiences will pay $10-$15 bucks for, but even so--- but for sure IT ISN'T A TREK that puts action in the back seat and tries to explore sci-fi concepts and charactor interaction (which they do a pretty decent job of anyway in the Abrams movies between action set-pieces.)

If you want that from Trek you have 28 seasons of TV TREK with scores of episodes like that AND we'll likely see Trek return to tv someday and we'll get back to a more even balence between action and exploration/character stuff/pure sci-fi. Until then enjoy the action trek movies or watch the tv shows and wait for a tv return.

Don't knock Abrams for making hit movies---the studios give him hundreds of millions of their dollars and he makes them money and solid movies and people mock that--like it's an easy thing to do.

Thank you. That is obviously what I meant. Dunno why the other guy got all hot and bothered.
