here's a pic I took 2 nights ago

B.J. , the Tinkerbell pic is cool!
boco, exactly how did you make that pic? (what camera? mounted or not? with or without telescope? With a filter?) I'm curious because the moon is one of my fvourite objects in the night sky and I'd like to make a few photos myself, occasionally.

well, Rhuba, I have a 18 mapixel Canon, with lens 55-250IS , and a tripod. You don't need much, good lens, and a cleans sky, wich usually I don't have where I live, because of the humidity and he smog

this one is taken with the other lens I have, 18-55

Terrific photos, boco. What you can do with great equipment... must get better stuff on my end. ;)

Here's a few shots from a recent thunderstorm that came through our area:

Billowing grey and purple storm clouds over the New York area?

The Keymaster and the Gatekeeper have found one another. :shifty:

:) Love your pics! why do you say you have to improve? You must be kidding!

Drawing is mostly based in the learned skill of learning how to see correctly. Anyone can learn it, even if anyone may not have a natural aptitude or artistic flair.
My first college art instructor had that philosophy. Judging by the advancement in skill by the least "talented" students in the class she was right. By the end of the semester some were better than the "natural" artists.

Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain was recommending reading for that class.

And here are a few more from the past week. NYC has seen some dramatic skies, to say the least:

I agree with this as well, even though I am myself one of the "natural" artists. I think anyone can learn to draw. I never took classes or lessons myself, but I really enjoyed art and drew all the time because of that. Even with whatever level of talent I had, I would never have developed as an artist without all that practice. Being self-taught still means I was taught. (Oh, and I've thought about doing drawing lessons for extra dough, so if anyone is in the NYC area and wants reasonably priced lessons, let me know!)

Though as someone who has studied (and intends to continue studying) brain science, the idea that the right or left half of the brain is responsible for any skill is wrong. :p

This past weekend my sister got married. We also had a long overdue family reunion at the wedding, which wound up seeing all of my dad's brothers arrive for the occasion, some of whom we hadn't seen in person in decades.

The family dog, Chewie. 14 years old and still king of the castle.

My dad, with his brothers, all together in the same place at the same time for the first time in at least 12 years.

My best friend Will and I. He and his wife were good enough to join us for the celebration as well. You might remember me mentioning him for his work on his excellent time lapse video of New York last year.

I like to call this "Time flies." The first photo was taken (roughly) in 1991 or 1992 at the other house my siblings and I grew up in, by a photographer friend of my dad's. The second, obviously, was taken this past weekend. What we didn't realize at the time was that we had lined up in exactly the same order as the photo from 20 years ago, so it only made sense to combine them.

Beautiful photos005! I love the one of your Dad and his brothers! Pictures like this with a caption like that put a lump in my throat every time!

Thanks. And yes, that photo of my dad and his brothers.... instantly became one of my favorite photos of all time once I saw it.

Your dad looks like a really cool guy, 005. He reminds me of someone famous...an actor? I just can't put my finger on who the hell it is. But he looks like a celeb of some kind.

The dog's awesome, too. Perfect name, BTW. ;)

My dad's a journalist, who's appeared frequently on television and radio over the past 40 years or so. It's entirely possible you've seen him (if briefly) covering middle east news and politics. Largely though, he tends to stick to writing and reporting for newspapers and radio broadcasts these days, and usually in Arabic.

And he is absolutely a cool guy too. :)

I put up these cool invisible bookshelves last weekend, and didn't even have to deface any of the books! I really like how they turned out:
