Maybe I can't hear well, or maybe I can't understand when the characters mumble, which they've been doing a lot lately, but what was the deal with the monster "eating faith?" Why was it there again? Something about being a relative of the Nimon?

I believe it got imprisoned. If I pieced things together correctly, it went to some planet, was worshiped as a god, they learned better and then imprisoned it. It feeds off faith anyway, just, in this case, the program kept bringing it food.

By the way, I am trying to keep averting my eyes, but would it be possible to not mention any concrete info on Amy and Rory's status next season outside of spoiler code?

Argh! I popped into the thread before the episode aired to read the summary and spotted the original thread photo, so I was left expecting 'him' to show up all episode, waiting increasingly impatiently toward the end. But nope, it's just a mistake that ended up colouring my whole expectations for the ep, and unable to enjoy (or not) the story for what it was. I think I'm just going to have to avoid looking at anything relating to a Doctor Who ep before its aired now, for fear of spoilers AND fake spoilers!

OTOH, I think this would still be an average for me with an above average ending, from Amy's room onwards. In an episode where I'm supposed to connect to the new characters and feel sad for them when they inevitably kick it, I can't help but just think of them as so much fodder, which is a frequent problem for NuWho. Especially with regards to Rita, proud badge carrier of the 'Companion Lite' staple, whose members are always dragged out and then killed off when we need the Doctor to feel that extra bit sad. Still, I guess it's hard to get a foot in when you've got Matt, Karen and Arthur on screen acting their socks off constantly, which is why the ending finally really works.

Speaking of, if this were the actual ending for our married companions, it feels natural in terms of the characters at the moment. But for their story? Nah. It feels like there's still much more to go there.

It seems a bit ass-backward to imprison a guy and keep him alive by murdering folks for him. Nice kind of prison, if you can get it.

Anyway, it was kinda like "Night Terrors" only a little better. Guest cast was all quite good, though Arab Nurse might have well been named Doomed Arab Nurse. The scary bits were never quite scary, though. Weeping Angels have sure been bled dry, huh.

The final scene was excellent.

I'm wondering: why the cousin of the Nimon and not actually a Nimon?

Was the new one just too much better looking looking than the original?

Or is there more cost involved with someone's idea being used as an actual appearance vs. just mentioning it?

Perhaps the culture which imprisoned Him had no tolerance for people with faith -- having just purged themselves of an irrational dependency on others, they might have been a bit sanctimonious on the matter. Just cruise Reddit some time and you'll get the idea.

Yeah, I don't know if the A-plot really holds up to scrutiny.

Loved this episode, ending was a complete shocker, but I should have known since last weeks felt like a pre-send off episode. I know Rory and Amy will be back in some capacity. I will truly miss them and it will be totally weird seeing this Doctor (Matt Smith) without the two of them because all three of them came on together.

I just started watching this show around the beginning of the summer, I know this is the norm and I should get used to it, but I really hate myself how I start getting attached to these characters and actors, whether it's the Doctor or his companions, only for them to move on. I think I'm gonna cry! Ok maybe not.

I didn't care for this one. Yes, the Rory and Amy development was good (and long overdue), but the actual episode was crap. Call me crazy, but a faith-eating Minotaur running around in a 1980's hotel in space just doesn't work for me. It needed more clowns.

Average.

Hm, the original worshippers still worshipped him. They were probably not able to dispose of him completely, simply because they praised him so much.
But they probably were selfish basterds enough to sacrifice others without a second thought and then simply forgot about him, when they got rid of his influence.

Loved it from start to finish and, for me, this was better than The Girl Who Waited, if only because it grabbed me right from the get go. Aside from Night Terrors the second half of the series is a corker if you ask me!

And for those who said Night Terrors had a Sapphire and Steel vibe, I'd argue that this was how you do S&S. Odd, creepy, just wrong, heck even some of the character interactions seemed off kilter, but not in a bad way.

And bye bye Ponds? Somehow I doubt it, but from what I've heard
although they're back in Series 7 its specifically in several Earthbound shows rather than as regulars. I hope that is the case because much as I love them I think it is the right time to stop them 'permanantly' travelling with the Doctor.

But yeah this ep was great, a Nimon (sort of) a riff on the end of Fenric, Rita (as it's been said best companion we never had since Lynda?) who would have been great, and frankly for all the who ha about the Doctor having a black companion I've always though it'd be great for him to have an Asian companion.

Even Walliams wasn't as annoying as I thought he might have been.

Well given that there are more Asians in Britain than blacks it would be more fitting.

Was the new one just too much better looking looking than the original?

There would have been permissions, yes, but it's probably more because their MO was different. The proper Nimon wanted life energy or something, right? And they hired patsies to build nuclear power plants for them. This guy wanted faith.

Well, I suppose they assumed it was inhumane to kill him and he had to feed somehow.

Inhumane to kill evil gods, but not to kill... humans?

 Okay, this I kinda buy.

I meant to say that I loved the Invaded Planet Guy. He was the best.

Exactly.

It's about time the Doctor stopped acting like an irresponsible absentee dad who tries to make his teenage kids love him by buying them beer and letting them skip school whenever they feel like it.
