Doctor: I am more powerful than the Rani. I--I can overthrow her.

Belinda: I can't believe what I'm hearing. You've changed. It's like I don't know you anymore. Come back!

(Doctor sees Susan standing behind Belinda)

Doctor: Liar! You're with her! You brought her here to kill me!

That makes six. For me, this series has been right back to modern Who's best.

Some quite stunning visuals, every character had substance, fun cameos, turns out Graham Norton's a pretty handy actor, very apt themes, and TWO huge reveals? Oh, and if anyone still thinks Gatwa isn't Doctor material, I have no idea what to say to you; the guy has all the range and power and intensity you could ever want. Gotta admit, though, the mid-credits sting is getting kinda tiresome, not least because Marvel's already worn that gimmick out and then some.

The only damper was being spoiled about the Rani, and avoiding spoilers about the last 2 eps will be hell. Don't be surprised if I fall silent until the end. Social media's gonna be a complete no-go zone for me.

Doctor: I shouldn't have tortured him, it wasn't the Time Lord way.

Rani: It was only natural. You thought he killed your companion and you wanted revenge. It wasn't the first time. Remember what you told me about your time as the Time Lord Victorious?
From my perspective it's the Time Lords who are evil!

Well then we agree actually!

Another blah one for me. I was hoping for something that actually played cleverly on the song contest somehow, even -especially- if it was camp, but instead that was over in a few minutes and we got a by the numbers bad guy with a ticking clock plot with a tech the tech solution worthy of Voyager.
I have no idea who that was at the end. Reveal fell completely flat. I've googled, there's no need to explain it.
I can only imagine what damp squid that reveal must've been from your perspective. A bunch random appearances followed by revealing she's a character you never heard of.

I like the idea of The Rani returning and hope RTD has a good plan for her (and Susan even more so). But I'm not a fan of how he just randomly shows someone (or drops a name, etc.) and then thinks the reveal will be a big deal.

Mining old Who for ideas isn't exactly a new practice in modern Who, but the degree to which RTD expects viewers to be familiar with details of a show that ended 35 years ago is perhaps... ambitious.

Also, putting the key two-seasons-in-the-making plot reveal in a mid credits sequence was an odd decision. And clunkily written, I felt, given its importance. "Luckily, that's not a problem for me" *regeneration effect* *cut to credits* would have been sharper and maintained a cliffhanger.
I think if RTD had given more interesting clues throughout the two seasons, perhaps the reveal would have been more interesting even for those not familiar with The Rani. Random appearances seem like the laziest, least creative way to build up suspense for the character.

I'm sure some one is preparing a YouTube video called "All the Rani clues you missed!"

Probably. But it didn't even have to be clues specifically that she was the Rani. Maybe clues about what she was up to, etc.

Not a huge deal. I'm looking forward to seeing more of her!
