What DS9 actors have you met?

Over the years I have had the honor of meeting:

Hope to meet Colm Meaney, Alexander Siddig, and Nicole DeBoer sometime to round out the main cast.

I have convention photos on the link below to my Trekspace profile.

Nicole deBoer is going to be at Dragon*Con 2011, Labor Day weekend in Atlanta, GA.

Meet a few of them at various cons/events over the years the ones i can recall of the top of my head are :-

Chase Masterson
Avery Brooks
Nana Visitor
Alexander Sidding
Aron Eisenberg
Andrew Robinson
Armin Shimerman
Max Grodénchik

Overall they were all very nice, i guess the one I most recall is Chase a bit of party girl if I rememebr correctly.

True, though I have never ventured to Dragon Con. I am contemplating the Vegas con in August, however.

I have never personally met any of them, but I went to a convention while DS9 was still on the air or right after it ended. I was still a little kid at the time, but a whole bunch of the cast was there signing autographs. My dad didn't want to wait in the line, but as we were leaving Cirroc Lofton looked at me haha.

I've met Avery Brooks, Michael Dorn, Nana Visitor, Armin Shimerman, Rene Auberjonois, James Darren, Aron Eisenberg and Chase Masterson. I guess I can add Patrick Stewart and Johnathan Frakes as well, since they guest-starred on the show.

All of them were really nice. The ones that stand out the most are Brooks, Frakes, and Visitor, especially Brooks. He was really friendly and seemed to make sure all his fans were having a good time. I was more rushed with the others, but Visitor and Frakes were was also very nice. All the Trek actors I've met have been honestly.

I haven't met many Trek actors, and the only DS9 actor I've met is Armin Shimerman. It wasn't a Trek con, but a local quarterly comics show. I think that he just agreed to do the show because his in-laws live in Portland. They sat him way in the back, and we had the hardest time finding him. I actually had to ask Andy Mangels where he was.

Very short line, got to talk for a little bit. He autographed my Quark CCG card.

Quite a few in the last five years. Most of them - Avery Brooks, Rene Auberjonois, Alexander Siddig, Terry Farrell, Nicole de Boer, Chase Masterson, Louise Fletcher, Robert O'Reilly, Jeffrey Combs - fall into the category of perfectly decent con guests. Polite and friendly for the moment or two you're with them, and you like to think that that's totally genuine. Not got a bad word to say about any of them, would love to meet them all again.

Got to meet Nicole and Chase again yesterday, and have to upgrade Chase from the 'perfectly decent' category to the 'oh my God, you are one of my fave people ever' category with Robinson, Hertzler and Visitor. She was the first person I went to see, because as always I was suffering with con nerves and wanted to start with someone who I knew wouldn't look at me like I was a complete nutter if my words started coming out in the wrong order. Which, for a change, they didn't.

Then I went to see her again right before I left, to get a photoshoot photo signed, and while there we had a little chat and she said a few things which I won't repeat but which really meant a lot to me as someone with very low self-esteem. So, Chase, if you're looking in, thank you so much, you really ended my day on a high.

That's not to say Nicole isn't nice too, she's lovely, but Chase is exceptional. Unfortunately I didn't get a picture of her without me in it, but I did get one of Nicole...

I have read that Michael Dorn (Worf) is very wealthy now and basically is retired from acting (because of Trek) and he is into aviation and other hobbies. So I am surprised that he is doing the Star Trek convention autograph circuit.

Same with Avery Brooks. Why is he an the autograph curcuit? From this thread (that I started) it seems that Brooks has done very little TV/film work, mainly by his choice. He is a visiting professor at a University and does stage performances (again, by his choice, not by lack of opportunities he did not pursue) My thread on Brooks.....

How much do these actors get paid to give autographs and have people take pictures of them with their fans? This is not free. Cool by me. I read on this board a while back about a guy who went to a Trek Con and decided on Tim Russ for the autograph and picture because this is what the fan could afford.

I used to go to Star Trek Cons back in the early 1990's living in Vegas and met Walter Koening and George Takei. I did not formally meet them, but got to ask them a question from the audience. Both of my questions sucked. One was embarrassing in hindsight.

Koening (who hated me for the day) Question: "Why can everyone fight except for Chekhov?" He said some off hand answer and refuced a second question. Then I made the poor guy say "Nooklear Wessles" for free while he was signing autographs. I never liked his character that much, and in hindsight, I was somewhat razzing him.

(To Mr. Koening, you don't know me, but my apologies, I was in my early 20's and immature and was on drugs.)

Takei, just an audience question:

"Who were your competitors on CBS and ABC during your run?" I was interested what shows were running against Trek during first run. This was before the internet and was interested. Tekai did not know. These are the two Star Trek actors I have met. I wanted to meet Doohan so bad and was sad when he died. I wonder how many of us drunk yahoos at conventions wanted to drink a shot with him for posterity sake. Did Doohan drink? He seemed like a man physically enjoyed many a beer in his time (but I may be wrong.).

In the film 'Galaxy Quest', the actors, including the lead actor (played by Tim Allen, playing Tim Allen as Shatner), having to do autograph conventions to make ends meet. It seems that most of these people have enough money, where they do not have to do this. But $20 bucks an autograph and maybe $50 a picture, it would be well worth it. I'd pay a $100 bucks to have a picture of Mirina Sirtis kissing me on the cheek.

But it seems that enough of these actors, who made more in a few years on a TV show than what most people make in a working lifetime would be selling autographs. Especially Brooks and Dorn.
