The cancelled Generations uniforms and DS9 and VOY

It occurred to me last night that if Generations plan for new uniforms had gone through, they'd been out soon enough to make the move to DS9 and VOY. But one of the points of new uniforms was so DS9 and VOY would have different uniforms to help with viewer distinction and recognition. So, were both shows going to get those uniforms before they were canceled at the last minute? Or would they've have given them to VOY but kept DS9 in their original uniforms?

I think the original idea was to have the Voyager crew wear the new uniforms, but the DS9 crew would continue using their jumpsuits to differentiate starship crews from space station crews. Instead, the complete opposite happened, and both DS9 and VOY crews wore the same older DS9 jumpsuits.

Also, the ‘official’ reason why they weren’t used was because the production felt it was ‘too much change’ from TNG, but honestly I’ve always felt that was BS. I don’t know how many of these uniforms were made, but I’m guessing they just thought that they didn’t look good. So they then proceeded to have the cast change into ill-fitting DS9 uniforms for no real good reason halfway through the film. Too much change, indeed

Been a while, but I thought the GEN Uniforms were supposed to go to VOY next. When those uni's got cancelled and they reverted to doing some scenes in Jumpsuits (why not just stick with the TNG's?). After the GEN uni's were cancelled VOY went with a slightly tweaked the DS9 costume

It's hard to imagine FC with the discarded GEN uniforms :D
Though they were kinda brought back in LDS, just with a white stripe

I think as fans we give too much credence too logic.

They wanted to rush out uniforms for Generations.

They were so rushed they failed.

I don't think they were thinking that far ahead.

Sure if they were great they might have made the jump, but they were flying by the seat of their pants as was evidenced by the entire botched operation. They were just trying to get a film out, and failing in some ways with it.

Yes, that was the plan, though presumably DS9 would have used the Generations uniforms for the times we saw TNG uniforms used on that series in the third, fourth and first half of the fifth seasons. IE, the crews of visiting starships would have worn the Generations, and Sisko might very well have switched to the Generations uniform when he went to Earth in Homefront and Paradise Lost. For that matter, everyone on Earth would have been wearing them in that two-parter.

Are there any great images online of these uniforms?

I know they ended up on prototype action figures or whatever and I’m sure I’ve seen some pretty poor quality pictures before but I’m coming up with nothing right now.

By the way, I think with some refinement those uniforms could have been cool, but they were probably better off going the way they ended up going. Mostly. I'm not sure why the DS9 uniforms had to enter the mix at all, why not just stay with the classic TNG suits?

Because they wanted to sell new merchandise, and if the crew looked exactly as they did in TNG, what's the incentive to buy new merch?

Not just the prototypes, the actual action figures which were released in fall 1994 to coincide with the movie's release. Toy deals are done really far in advance, and by the time the decision was made to drop the new uniforms from the movie, it was already too late to alter the action figures.

I think the collars/waist look weird, but it's quite nice to see rank brought back onto the cuffs like in TOS.

I can see why they didn't go with them.

They seemed like a rushed and uninspired way to combine TNG uniforms with the TOS monster maroons. If only they’d tried a little harder they might have pulled it off. The clunky collars are probably what kill it.
