What DS9 actors have you met?

I briefly met Rene Auberjonois at the Shore Leave convention. I was in a line for autographs, so we didn't speak long, but he seemed like a nice enough fellow.

I have met Alexander Siddig many times; he was always kind, lovely, very gentle and full of self-deprecating humor. He's very charming. I was in his fan club for years and he was extremely funny, and very tolerant of all the women staring after him. He was surprisingly open and honest (sometimes too open; I remember one of the organizers had to stop him from sharing too much personal information). I won a backstage tour at one of his club's charity auctions, and he took time out to spend a little time with us in the "corridor" sets. He's just a doll.

I have met Armin once or twice; both times, he was very serious but very nice and really looked people in the eye. The first time we met, he was certain we'd met before and wouldn't believe me when I said we hadn't. I practically had to give him my life story before he'd believe we hadn't actually met.

I met Rene briefly, and saw him talk. He was very light-hearted, a bit silly and you could tell he and Armin were good friends. He joked that he was more like Quark and Armin was more like Odo.

I met Andrew Robinson only briefly at an autograph line; he was a bit grumpy and didn't have much time for people, but I also think he was ill or out of sorts that day. He didn't look well.

I've also met Wil Wheaton, Brent Spiner, Gates McFadden, Dwight Shultz, Alan Ruck, Marina Sirtis, Scott Schwartz, Leonard Nimoy, and Dean Stockwell (and a whole bunch of other scifi folks) in the years seven years I've been goin' to scifi & horror cons.

None so far, but I'm looking forward to meeting Avery Brooks next month, when he comes to Sydney for a convention.

Quite a few in the last five years. Most of them - Avery Brooks, Rene Auberjonois, Alexander Siddig, Terry Farrell, Nicole de Boer, Chase Masterson, Louise Fletcher, Robert O'Reilly, Jeffrey Combs - fall into the category of perfectly decent con guests. Polite and friendly for the moment or two you're with them, and you like to think that that's totally genuine. Not got a bad word to say about any of them, would love to meet them all again.

There's a few in particular though that stand out for me;

Michael Dorn - really didn't seem to want to be there, I think he's the only person I've met at a convention who didn't say anything when I met him. Don't think he even looked at me, actually. Bit disappointing, really, and what made it stand out all the more was that next to him was the lovely Denise Crosby, who's probably the nicest of all the TNG guests I've met. It was a real night and day difference between those two.

Andrew Robinson - really nice guy on both occasions I've met him, friendly and talkative and he actually remembered from the first time which was just fantastic.

J.G. Hertzler - oh wow. He's just this big bear of a man, really great guy, but what really sold me on him was having a photoshoot - with him made up as Martok and Robert O'Reilly as Gowron. Now while O'Reilly was just O'Reilly under all the makeup, Hertzler really was Martok, he was 100% in character. When one of the girls looking after everyone's bags had a little bout of the giggles he actually swaggered over to her in full Martok mode and asked "What is the joke, small Earth woman? Share it with me!" The guy is beyond cool. :techman:

Nana Visitor - this is where I really have to fight the urge to gush. She was the very first Trek guest I ever met at my first con back in 2007, I was very nervous about meeting so many of my heroes and wasn't sure if this was something I could ever do again...until I met her. I'd been getting a bit annoyed with myself after meeting a few other people and being a bit...well, I'm not sure what the right word would be. It was just starting to get to me that I wasn't really saying anything to these people beyond 'can you sign this/can I have a photo with you/kthxbai'.

But then I met Nana, and one of the most remarkable things about her is that when she says hello to you it's like she knows you, like you're an old friend and she's genuinely pleased to see you. And without going any further down memory lane with regard to that first meeting, I really do believe that the only reason that the only reason I'm still going to conventions nearly five years later is because somehow she gave me the confidence to keep going, to not be quite so shy around all these people who I've admired and respected for so long.

I got to meet her again earlier this year, and tell her some of that and...well, her response just confirmed everything that I'd taken away from that first meeting. Except more so. Forget nice convention guests - she is one of the nicest people I've ever met period.

I had a really long talk with Max Grodenchik at last summer's Vegas convention. Really, really witty guy. Not having watched a lot of DS9 I didn't really have a lot to say about his character, which might have helped.

Though it was hysterical seeing him react when a fan came up for an autograph and introduced himself by saying "Hey! You're short!" to Mr. Grodenchik and complaining that, when he's not standing next to Quark, he looks much shorter. Nice way to start off on the right foot there.

I met Casey Biggs at a convention about 3 years ago. I think it was the first time I'd ever met an actor, or at least met one that was from something I genuinely had an interest in. And... I was surprised, both at his down-to-earthness and my own composure... :p

I met Nana Visitor at Cardiff many years ago now and as she was a new mother even though he wasn't on the official guest list Alexander Siddig came with her and spent some time with fans.

I found in even the brief time I spent with them to be genuine warm individuals.

Also have met John DeLancie and Robert Picardo, both of whom have a very mischievous sense of humour. Something shared with a non-DS9 actor I was honoured to also meet at the Cardiff convention, Walter Koenig.

I've met Casey Biggs a few times at the last two Las Vegas Star Trek conventions. I was very impressed by him. He's very charismatic in person and projects a powerful presence (it would be obvious he's done stage work even if you didn't already know that about him). He's very friendly, will chat with you, and doesn't mind putting his arm around you for photo ops. If you get a chance to meet him at a convention, it's well worth it.

Yeah, I had to go around to his side of the table, the volunteer handlin' money took the pic, and Q stayed in his seat.

Still, I got a couple of cool autographs (an 8x10 and a Judge Q action figure) out of it.

The only two Niners I have met are Nicole deBoer and Chase Masterson. Both were super friendly and just a pleasure to talk to. Thankfully, both were at fairly small scale conventions so there was a little more personal interaction than you sometimes get.

I wasn't trying to imply that I don't like the pic! Sorry if I made it seem that way!

Over the last 10 years, I think I've met pretty much everyone of note from DS9 except Terry Farrell, James Darren and Wallace Shaun. Have even met Colm, and he's hard to track down.

They were all great except for Dorn, who as noted above, seems to be a bit of miserable sod. He was fine the first time I saw him at Creation, but utterly "off" the second time. I heard he doesn't deal with jet lag well, but that's no excuse for being rude.

Met Casey Biggs numerous times over the years, and he did get to recognise and know me by name, although I've not seen him for 7 years.

And if you ever get the chance, Penny Johnson Gerald is just lovely. She's actually on the same loveliness plane as Nana. :adore:

Don't worry, I don't like that pic, anyway...and the bad part is, its one of the better snapshots I got that day.

More pics then I have with Trek actors. I haven't met any. :scream:

At Dragon*Con 2010 in Atlanta, GA, I met both Rene Auberjonois and Armin Shimerman. They were both extremely sweet guys. I didn't meet, but saw in panel discussions: Avery Brooks, John DeLancie, Robert O'Reilly, and JG Hertzler. DeLancie's presentation was a little lackluster, not what you'd expect from Q, but everyone else sparkled.
