Today I shoved a racist to the floor in a crowded restaurant.

Who says he didn't contribute? I was entertained by Holdfast's post.

And there you have it, and from another mod at that.
What do you mean by that? I find most of Holdfast's posts entertaining.

I was worried that'd be misconstrued.

I was responding to my previous post, effectively. I said the whole thing should be dropped, then you chimed in by saying you enjoyed Holdfast's post, even. So combined, I'd say it's a safe bet the whole thing should be dropped, that's all.

I probably would have told them off but avoided the violence and just got the manager involved. The violence may have been justified, but you got very lucky that it didn't turn into something worse.

More importantly, how's the food at Biff's? Me and a friend are getting tired of Ferg's and need a new place for lunch meetups.

So the guy wearing the restaurant uniform stood up and pointed back at me threateningly, telling me to mind my damn business and get the hell out of his restaurant. [...] I shoved him full-force down onto the floor.
So you pushed the left trigger for the Renegade interrupt. Way to go, Jeff :techman: I'll have to try this as soon as I'm done with my Paragon playthrough.

I agree that your geing violent is not the way to handle it. At least you could haveprovoked him into hitting first so you wouldn't be liable. In my store a violent customer, even if provoked, would have been facing charges.

I would strongly caution you against equating conservatism with this kind of crap. As a conservative I find racism sickening. I don't care who does it to who; it's wrong. I may disagree with every word out of Obama's mouth but I will speak and vote on principle, not race. If given a conservative black candidate, I will vote for said candidate with NO hesitation. I have done so in the past and will do so again. But agree or disagree, I do NOT tolerate racial attacks. It offends the God-given dignity of each human being and our individual righr to rise and fall on our decisions as free individuals rather than things that have no bearing on who we are as people.

So please do not confuse or conflate conservatism and bigotry.

I hear it's good!

So I was like THIS close to falling asleep and then I cracked the hell up at this. Thanks a lot!

I have several conservative friends so if I actually typed something that heavily suggested I equate conservatism with bigotry in general then I apologize.

Jeff, you were right to confront these assholes. You've got a leadership instinct that IS something to be proud of, and should be held distinct from pride in pushing down some fat old racist packing on a few more pounds at Biff Burger for christsake. Following the leadership instinct amongst a group of people ignoring something is one of the greatest skills to have, and few have it.
IMO your concern should be what you will do the next time something like this occurs. Lot of assholes out there. We all have the kill instinct and you mentioned being concerned with what you might have done had he hit you back.
Do you study at a good dojo? That might be a good avenue to take.

Please tell me you came out with a witty one liner before twatting him!

I'm in a mixed race relationship and whenever I get any funny looks or sly comments I respond with a steely glare and a very northern 'WHAT?'. They normally just wander off looking disgruntled or simply shut up.

Thankfully in the UK the odds of you getting arrested, never mind prosecuted, for pushing a wanker over are slim to nil. He would get a harsher punishment for his racist comments and doesn't have the legal option to go grab a shotty from the van.

Im not one to agree with violence and all that but some people really do need a punch in the face. I salute you sir.

Pretty much what a bunch of others have said: I applaud your passion for justice. I don't condone the violence. I do understand that it felt good.

I'm surprised it wasn't the child's father who did this, but I guess since the child was so young, he didn't want him exposed to further bad language or violence.

Not to mention that the father knew darn well that, as a black man, he couldn't get away w/ assaulting a white guy like Jeff did. He would've been arrested.

Understood and appreciated! ;)

Regardless of his racist statements, the employee (ex-employee) can still make an assault case against you.

Yeah, me with the not so much caring.

Why do you say you don't care about the possibility of prosecution and imprisonment?

You know it would likely be an unpleasant experience for you, would be a disruption to your life/career, would cause stress for your family.

And about the person you attacked -- it's unlikely that you've changed their feelings at all.

The law may still catch up with you, Jeff. We may never know if it does.

While the shoving would have been a step too far for me (until he shoved or hit me first), I wholly applaud your actions, Jeff. Good on you for standing up against racism and bigotry.
