Just Started Avatar The Last Airbender

Well I was a little worried about S3 so far but I just saw a great revelatory episode, "The Avatar and the Fire Lord". Very cool to see the origin of the war and the backstory of the previous Firebender Avatar. I also enjoyed "The Beach" which had the Fire kids going on a vacay and did a great job of fleshing out their characters. Though the Fire guy with the forehead tattoo who shoots lasers was totally bat-shit insane. That guy looked so much more powerful than any other character ever!!!

He's using psychic abilities to cause things to combust, just like how Iroh showed his "Dragon of the West" abilitily by causing tea to ignite without an alcoholic catalyst.


Besides all that, I like the Dai Li are very cool.

What did you think about Jet's fate in Ba Sing Sae?

Iroh did not cause the tea to ignite. He was simply using an advanced form of the "Breath of Fire" technique (the same that Iroh told Zuko to use when he was at the North Pole or

that Zuko used to keep warm inside the cooler on the Boiling Rock

) The tea was simply used to moisten his throat and mouth to prevent the increased power fire from burning him, it is also speculated that it may have been an amplifier.

"...his unique abilities are due to an extremely overdeveloped third eye. He channels chi energy from his stomach, and then focuses and fires it from his third eye, through a tattoo on his forehead."

Yes. Yes, he did stay behind. He was fatally injured in the Dai Li base under Lake Laogai and stayed behind Aang and the others time to escape.

My "It's unclear" was a line from ep 57, "Ember Island Players". The play shows Jet dieing, Zuko asks if that was what happened, Soka replies that it was unclear.-

I think this was actually more like breaking the fourth wall and the writers taking a little jab at themselves.

Here's the Avatar wiki article on Jet. It clearly lists him as deceased. And he was killed in action under Lake Laogai.

Pretty much the whole play in "The Ember Island Players" was the writers taking jabs at themselves.

OK just saw "Black Sun 1: The Invasion". Four star episode! We haven't seen a big ass war sequence like this since the first season finale! Gorgeous! I loved the way all these bit characters I could barely remember came back like that, but where the **** is the Northern Water Tribe? They're the only actual military power that are still allied with them! If they appear in the next ep or something don't tell me And it ended with a nice plot twist, that the Fire Lord high tailed it out of there before the invasion ever happened. I was trying to remember if the Fire Nation knew about the eclipse or not. As for what Zuko is planning to do, it's either free Iroh or kill Ozai. You never tell with him. It's frustrating how back and forth he is as a character, but it's realistic I suppose. I'm leaning towards killing daddy, since rescuing uncle would be the sensible thing to do Maybe he will run into the palace at the same time Aang is there, both expecting to fight Ozai, and they'll end up fighting each other. Don't tell me!

BTW, has anyone ever noticed the four silhouettes in the opening sequence are characters in the show?

Earth- is Roku's Earth bendering teacher
Water- is Katarra's water bending teacher
Fire- is Azula
Air- is Ang

Oh yeah I had a revelation today; Iroh is training physically because he knows the eclipse is coming. So when it happens he'll escape the jail b/c he's prepared for a physical non-power fight and they're not. I also keep waiting for his little Pi Sho secret society to break him out or something. Though I'm guessing since Mako died they're intentionally side-lining the character so he doesn't talk too much, which is a real shame because he was such a great character and I'd hoped he would be Aang's fire teacher. But no spoilers!

^Sidelining the character was maybe part of it, but I see it more as giving us an extended "moment of silence" both in tribute to Mako and as a sort of cushion space between the two Iroh voices so the transition isn't jarring.
