Re: Smallville#9x11 & 12 "Society" & "Legends" - Discuss/Grade <SPOILE
A Specter episode would be bad ass. Jim Corrigan as the host.

Agreed. Before he took the Dr. Fate helmet, Icicle wasn't anything more than the freak of the week.
Dr. Fate is made to look like a right chump and then they make a big deal about Icicle coming for Alan Scott despite showing us that he still has his ring. Huh ? That guy's supposed to be a threat to a Lantern ?![]()
Let's keep in mind that one of the perennial enemies of the Flash is Captain Boomerang. With the right amount of intelligence a cryokinetic can be a big threat. Granted, Icicle here didn't come across that way...
Alan's ring was in a display case in the museum, wasn't it? Wasn't the lantern in there too? Unless those were replicas, then Alan does NOT have his ring.
I want to see it too for the same reasons.Shit! I just threw-up all over myself from the commercial for "Valentine's Day." Now I got a mess to clean up.
I wanna see that actually. Hoping it's another Love Actually type of movie. It's got a HELL of a cast.
When I saw Pam Grier's name in the credits, I knew that's who she'd be playing. I just knew. Can't wait to see Pam Grier as Amanda Waller! Way cool!
Looked like it.I take it the "museum" was a redress of Lex's mansion.
She looked fine to me age wise. Didn't know she was 25. That works too. There is no way that girl is a sophomore in high school, she looks much older...
Shanks is a good actor and he did a fantastic impression of James Spader's Dr. Jackson on SG-1. However...The dude playing Hawkman ain't much of an actor, is he?
Yeah, really. It wasn't good.Lol at Shanks Batman Bale voice
I was wondering what he meant by her sharing the same fate as well. What does that mean? That Chloe's going to wear a helmet?
Looked kind of odd with him just haging there in mid air with the wings not moving.I dunno, the Hawkman flying is a bit Superman'ish, would have preferred some flapping wings and more realistic bird flying
Didn't even give the phone a second thought.Detective John Jones...
Yes I still own a rotary-dial phone.
... Yes I realize it's 2010.
... Yes I realize it's pathetic.
Nice to see that. I was surprised that they got Green Lantern on the show. Then I wasn't surprised to see that they didnt use him. Budget... Embargo... Whatever... I also wish we had seen Jay Garrick's Flash and Hawkgirl at the very least.Alan's lantern and ring, the whole reason I tuned in tonight![]()
Definately noticed that. Nice touch. I was also thinking... Why can't we see him as he really is at some point. Then sure enough we did.anyone else notice anything SPECIAL about jone's outfit? green with the red stripes! sweet
First thought... Product Placement!Windows 7...
wow! lex is still alive!!!!
He's Lex. Of course he's still alive.Lex is not dead!!!
Yeah. She wasn't fat enough and her hair wasn't short enough.wasnt waller a fat, short little woman in the comics?
Yeah.wow!!!! the REAL martian manhunter. that was so awesome
Did he just say "Warm sphincter"?![]()
Didn't think of "Apokolips". Good catch. I want to see Darkseid. I've been warming up to the suggestions here that they put Michael Ironside in a KISS outfit for the role.Does this mean Apokolips is coming or was she just taking about Zod?
Missed that.Loved the Nod to the Golden Age Red Tornado.
I thought the same thing. Those two were featured in an episode of Justice League Unlimited.Shame Kara is gone. She and Stargirl would have been interesting.
Nah! In fact, I forgot all about them....I think it would have been better if Zod and his army was somehow involved...
Doesn't look like the ratings for this episode were much higher than usual. Friday's ratings thread.I'll bet plenty of people who rarely watch SMALLVILLE tuned in for this "special" episode. They would have been baffled if it had been tied in too closely to the whole Kandorian arc and all..
What the hell was with the single scene with a fake pudgy Clark Kent looking all black-and-white-serialy, complete with glasses that Lois (or anyone else) didn't seem to notice wasn't Clark?
Totally missed the joke. That sounds funny. That guy actually kind of reminded me of Dean Cain's Clark Kent to be honest...and wasn't he like the editor or publisher with glasses on? I assume that was some kind of gag to explain why Lois never recognizes Clark as Superman. She can't even recognize Clark heh.
Yes.I could be wrong, but wasn't Impulse meant to be an early Flash?
I was thinking about JSA as a TV show and decided that it would look pretty lame. I never saw that failed Justice League show from a few years back, but I saw pics and this episode reminded me of that. Read about it here. This stuff works for Smallville, but that's about it.Actually, for a TV budget, I thought they did pretty good.
Seeing as how this is an AU, they could have Alan pass off his ring to someone (Hal, though Guy and maybe John would fit in better). Not that I don't want to see Alan, but the show seems to be more about setting up the current generation.Loved the writing and the homage being paid to the JSA. Hope these guys (plus maybe Alan and Jay, who were mentioned as "still out there") show up again for the upcoming Apokolips threat and show Clark's team what real superheroes look like.![]()
I think you meant Captain Cold (Geoff's favorite villain, possibly even his favorite character). Captain Boomerang's the, you know, guy with the boomerangs.![]()
It's possible, though since most of the other JSA members were present and their histories were mostly close to the comics (with the inclusion of Checkmate instead of the House Un-American Activities Committee as a notable exception), I'm going with they just didn't feel it was worth mentioning, not that it didn't happen.Well, since this is an AU anyway, perhaps in this universe Ted Knight didn't do anything important, and Sylvester Pemperton invented the Cosmic Rod (since he is a genius after all)?

Icicle is not someone who'd be a genuine threat to even this show's dumbed down version of Superman.

Perhaps, but this is one of the only times I can think of where Alan's even had a possible appearance outside the comics. Plus, just to be safe if they don't wanna run a Lantern-embargo risk, they could just call him Sentinel.
Nah, I meant Captain Boomerang as a specific example of a long-time villain who seems even more ridiculous than Icicle. Captain Cold at least has the weapons - and they're not, you know, boomerangs.
Certainly not a bad solution since the painting had Mid-Nite and Mr. Terrific (as examples) and except for the "Fair Play" artifacts that's all we saw of them.
Icicle is not someone who'd be a genuine threat to even this show's dumbed down version of Superman.
He was and has been in the comics. For years. With a powerset not unlike Captain Cold (for the father) and like a dumbed-down Iceman (for the son), he's been a credible foe for Alan Scott since the 1940s. And again... Captain Boomerang? Versus a guy who can outrun and dodge bullets?

I dunno, like somebody else mentioned I can't imagine Alan leaving something that powerful and potentially dangerous just lying around. I'd prefer to think of them as replicas.
Although I wonder. Could just anyone wield the power of the ring? The Lantern Corps have to choose someone or be specifically granted, not just picked up. And even though Alan's ring isn't a Corps ring, it's always been tied to him specifically right?

This is smallville..its aimed at teens. Even my 15 year old daughter liked this episode..so, you watch, we might meet Alan, but it will be JADE who they show in uniform..
And what about the Spectre? he's way too powerful for this tv show..

That'd be pretty cool actually, if they find Alan having trained Jade to be his replacement not unlike how Courtney replaced Sly.
Hmm. Okay, so we know for sure the JSA consists pretty much at this point of Hawkman and Stargirl.
What if, at some future point, Clark meets back up with Carter and Courtney as they are tracking down the rest of the Society. Tie it in with Fate's helmet finding a new host who's young and inexperienced. The twist, so to speak, is that as they're finding all these Society members, they've all got young(er) proteges who are taking/have taken up the mantles. I don't remember who was said to've died other than Sylvester and Wed Dodds, but I'm gonna assume none of the rest? So say Jade has been trained by Alan who's all but retired, Ted Grant (Wildcat) has found his son Tommy, and, say... Charles McNider (Mid-Nite) has bequeathed his role to Pieter Anton Cross. I think adding three more (sort of six more) characters would be more than enough. Also tie in Black Canary's history with her mom in the Society and pseudo-retcon Impulse to have had Jay Garrick's influence in his life for some time. Also bring Michael Holt in as a shadowy figure working to oppose Checkmate and keep the former Society members safe.
Now, why do all this? Simple. Say Hawkman heroically sacrifices himself in some way, and what does that leave?
A whole bunch of heroes (Green Arrow, Manhunter, Stargirl, newFate, Jade, Wildcat Jr., newMid-Nite, Black Canary, Impulse, Cyborg, Aquaman, Michael Holt), but the one with the most a) experience and b) leadership ability among active heroes is Clark Kent. Manhunter seems to follow Clark's lead, Michael Holt is a more black-ops type in this scenario, and the older generation have retired or (maybe) died.
Voila, instant Justice League.
They don't need TOM WELLING to do a JLA show. the only demand I would make? Geoff, or Greg, or someone with DC in their history, and is a good writer, run the show; not some bean counter sitting behind Bugs Bunny's desk.
Rob
A lot of possibilities with the JSA offsprings and proteges.
From the Infiity Inc. series there's Silver Scarab (Hawkman's son), Fury (WW daughter or Fury's daughter or Miss America's daughter), Nuklon/Atom-Smasher (Atom's godson), Jade and Obsidian (GLs kids), Northwind (Hawkman's godson), Hourman II (Hourman's son), Dr.Midnight (An protege of Dr Mid-Nite) and Wildcat II/La Garra (friend of Wildcat) Huntress and Power Girl might even be possible
From the new JSA series: Mister Terrific II, Sandy/Sand/Sandman (Sandman's ward), Hawkgirl (the soul of Hawkman's wife in the body of her niece), the Hourman android, Damage (the Atom's son), Cyclone (daughter of Red Tornado) and the new Doctor Fate (nephew of Dr fate)
Not sure how Jakeem Thunder would fit in the Smallville-verse. They didn't but Johnny Thunder and the Thunderbolt in the portrait.
Darth you're confusing The Comedian from Watchman, and as to Hawkman/Carter Hall, played fantasically by Michael Shanks AKA Dr Daniel Jackson from Stargate SG-1 is the Golden Age Hawkman that I remember reading about as a kid.The dude playing Hawkman ain't much of an actor, is he?
These guys are way too young to be old school superheroes but then again, this is about as old as the CW is willing to get when casting actors.
Dr. Fate mentioned his wife Inza. Was she the one they found out was raped by another superhero and the guy was lobotomized?

Or mixing it up with Identity Crisis, with the Elongated Man's wife getting raped by the villain Dr. Light, who was then essentially lobotomized.Darth you're confusing The Comedian from Watchman, and as to Hawkman/Carter Hall, played fantasically by Michael Shanks AKA Dr Daniel Jackson from Stargate SG-1 is the Golden Age Hawkman that I remember reading about as a kid.The dude playing Hawkman ain't much of an actor, is he?

Don't be concerned...Clark's not Superman yet thus the reason for him using his heat vision in an uncharacteristic manner not seen in the comics. This hasn't been the first time that Clark has used his heat vision in an aggressive manner. Clark is not Superman...therefor I wish fans would stop comparing THIS Clark to Superman. I stopped doing this around season three or four haha.
