Scrubs: Season Nine

I finally got around to watching the 6th episode, which I had missed (still need to watch 8 and 9), and I think it's probably the funniest episode in a couple of years. Turk trying to find a new work buddy was funny, and I even have to admit that Cole thinking their were going to be med-school rankings, when the list was just alphabetized was hysterical. I've even grown to like Lucy. She's so weird, you can't help but like her.

Even though I doubt it will get renewed, I hope these last few episodes are good.

So this is bizarre. They have a big "J.D. Is Leaving" episode and re-write him out of the series.... then two episodes later he's back again with no fanfare and it's like he's never gone, and he's doing his own little story with Elliot and no-one else.

I didn't think the first several episodes were all that great, but things seem to improve once JD left. And I say that as a fan of JD's character, at least in the first 8 seasons. This season he just seemed more over-the-top and annoying than in past years. This week's episode with him and Elliot worked better than his stint as a professor, but I think getting him out of the way let the writer's start figuring out what this new show was going to be.

Yeh ABC really made a poor choice bringing it back the 8th season finale was amazing and the season in a whole was pretty strong. Scrubs hit a series low last night and were talking CW numbers with a demo under 1.0. Expect the show to be offiically canned very quickly. Season 9 for me is a season I will ignore in the future.

I found the episodes with JD to be the strongest of the season. I think it would have been better if they didn't give him the voice in the head as he dominates the episodes too much. Or if they cut it down to two or three episodes at the start before JD left.

Agreed. I think giving him a couple of episodes to transition to the new characters and then getting him out of the way (preferably after the birth of the baby) would have worked better. Maybe they assumed they'd get the back nine episodes, but now, unless JD and Elliot are back for another episode, the series will end without the birth of their baby, which seems odd.

I've been really enjoying it more now that JD is gone. The man-child gone wrong thing was just getting so horrible. It was good in the early years, but I think the writers jumped off the cliff with that one a long time ago.

I still find Lucy and Cole intolerable. Having Lucy daydream the way JD did was a horrible idea. Denise and Drew are much more worth watching, though the actor playing Drew needs to step back the Perry Cox impersonation. There are times when his line delivery is SO close to how Dr. Cox would respond that it is very distracting.

I like how Turk & Cox are bonding. I like seeing Kelso once in a while. I like how Turk & Denise had some bonding a couple episodes ago. Overall, I think the show fares better without JD around - unless Elliot is also there and unless the input from both of them is peripheral.

I still haven't seen last night's episode. Is JD in this one too? Because I thought he was gone... and then he was back... and then he was gone again... and back. I don't get it.

I just caught up using perfectly legal magic. Episodes 6 and 7 were okay because of Elliot, but the increased screentime of Cole is lowering my defences against cancer, and my immune system was the weakest it has ever been during episode 8. 9 was just weird because it had JD and Elliot but no baby. 10 was probably the best episode this season, partly because it had hot lesbians and Cole was less insufferable than usual.

Lucy's character has potential because she combines some of the good characteristics of JD and Elliot, but the more time she spends with Cole the less I care about her character. The only way they can save the Cole character is for him to lose his vocal cords and have the rest of the cast randomly punch him at least twice per episode. If that doesn't happen then the show doesn't deserve a 2nd season.

I too like JD's absence. They could have done has ark as finally growing up, but not so much. With both Turk and Elliot becoming mentors, he's still stuck where he was as an intern. Give the new characters some breathing space. Give the Asian dude and the Hot aussie chick some development.

I hated Cole at first but he has grown on me over the last 4 or 5 episodes. He is a complete jackass but he has won me over as a character.

Four words: Helicopter crashing on him.

I don't think this show's in any danger of getting a second season--maybe on NBC, but not on ABC which isn't really struggling for stuff to throw on the air.

It sounds less than agonizing, but I still have no desire to check it out. I've always been a casual fan at best anyway.

Theres no doubt the season has been getting better per episode though I HATE COLE :klingon: but ABC still got everything wrong in how they handled the future of the show after season 8...I love the black campus cop hes a real laugh.

I just wish they were giving Better Off Ted the Wednesday try-out instead of Scrubs. Scrubs is in it's 9th season, but Ted has barely had a chance to live. As much as I've liked Scrubs over the years, I'd prefer to let it end and give Ted the benefit of being surrounded by the stronger ABC Wednesday sitcom lineup.
