New SGU Trailer *MAJOR SPOILERS*

Well, it doesn't look much like Stargate and it sure doesn't look like Star Trek.*

On those bases alone I'll watch the pilot. When's it air?

*Except for beaming. That part looks exactly like Star Trek, and always did.

Yeah, I'll watch the pilot. It looks like they've gotten away from Planet Vancouver, and on that basis alone, I'll tune in for the premiere.

Universe does look good now. Also those EV Suits look like a mixture between the Pegasus Asgard Battle Armor and the NX-01 EV Suits.

I bet it was the Lucian Alliance that attacked the base anyway. It looks to me so far that they are going to do planet of the week with a prominent overlapping arc.

This looks like it will be good!

And I'm thinking that since they had to travel to Icarus Base by ship and didn't dial Earth to escaope the attack that the gate is hooked up to only dial the Destiny.

Am I the only one that thinks the show should be called Stargate: Destiny?

It would be the ship and fit the theme itself better.

I don't know. I think a title like that could come off as too self-important. But, then again, "Universe" is an awfully broad title for the programme. We'll see.

I was very hit and miss about this when I first heard about it, and when I saw the first teaser I wasn't really fussed, but after seeing that trailer I'm really interested in watching this. It looks like a nice chance from the, quite frankly, boring later series of SG-1 and all of Atlantis.

The more trailers I see for this thing, the more I doubt whether any of the characters are going to be very interesting, or in some cases (like the fatass nerd) tolerable. At least they're spending a bit of money on alien landscapes.

They really need a Joe Flanigan-type actor in here somewhere, to make the show watchable despite itself. Not seeing that yet. Maybe if Lou Diamond Phillips would lighten up, he can fulfill that role.

Where the hell did they get the budget for all those actors, plus all that *amazing* effects from? Stargate has always been a bit ropey round the edges, but, blimey, I can kinda see how they netted some of the bigger actors now.
They've got a) young, pretty unknowns of questionable talent and b) decent older actors whose dollar value in Hollywood is rapidly running out with the cruel sands of time.

I can see how they could afford all of them on a basic cable budget. Both groups should feel lucky to get into a series with a reasonably locked-in audience and lowered risk of cancellation.

Well, it doesn't look much like Stargate .

I dunno. It looked like Stargate to me. :\

Looked like Stargate with the lights turned down, the action sped up and half the budget for SFX thrown into the premiere. ;)

It looks like a nice chance from the, quite frankly, boring later series of SG-1 and all of Atlantis.
All we can see in a trailer is sound & fury - action and SFX. Maybe some inkling of whether the actors have charisma and whether the characters have potential. The one thing we cannot see is the part that has made Stargate boring - the writing, observed at length, not just whether individual stories are interesting and reasonably fresh, but whether the episodes add up to anything over time. Stargate has already had decent action, after all. If people are unhappy, that can't be due to absence of explosions.

Nah, it sounds like something a fanfic would go with (and I know of one that is actually called Stargate: Destiny). Besides, hyping destiny as a theme would kinda go against the whole "wrong people in the wrong place" thing, unless they go with "you make your own destiny," which is a good theme.

Anyway, this looks pretty interesting, and I really like the "steampunk" look of the Destiny and its stargate.

I still have doubts the current creative staff can pull this off, and I'm still pissed that they canceled Atlantis for Universe, but godDAMN that trailer was AWESOME.

Remember, the Ori don't have regular stargates per se - they DO have a version of the ring transport technology which apparently can get you from planet to planet, though, and the huge intergalactic gates. The big rings are all Lantean / Ancient.

We never saw one, but it stands to reason the Ori have regular-sized stargates. We saw the first Priors arrive by stargate, and they used a stargate to send the pieces of the supergate through. Now, we know that stargates of different sizes can connect, but I don't think it's too likely they used a supergate to dial personnel stargates and got the Priors to the Milky Way by kicking them out of airlocks and into the supergate.
Correct. The city of Celestus (sp?) was on another planet, and it is from there that the Priors traveled to the other worlds in the Ori Galaxy. And they had to have discovered gate tech long ago (but after the fleeing Alterrans perfected it) in order to attack the Ancients at the begining of the original conflict-allegedly starting the plague here in the MW, before both sides ascended and seeded their galaxies with humans and gates....

Used to think RDA looked like the kind of people who would never get fat. I hate when people get old. :scream: I think many female stargate fans are heartbroken. Oct 2nd .... still more than two months away.

Edit: Oh, and no Shep/O'Neill type it seems. Not sure about the crew cut leading guy. Reminds me of Helo and Apollo whom I never liked. Hope Carlyle's character is fun. Anybody knows what he's like? Serious or wise-cracking? I've not been keeping up with Universe news.

Good lord! What happend to RDA, seriously I hope thats not him because thats just sad. But I was pretty excited when I first heard about this spin off some time ago and now I've even more excited. I have to be honest, I hadn't seen anything with Robert Carlyle except for "24: Redemption" and I really liked him in that. So I have high hopes for this role but one thing did kind of catch my attention.

Is it just me or is Robert Carlyle in civilian mode trying to pull of the Gaius Baltar look? Anyway, I think this is going to be good, I just hope sci-fi gives it at least two seasons.

Yeah I get a lot of Gaius Baltar / Dr. Smith (lost in space) vibe from him... Which is not necessarily bad. Not villain per se, but someone with ulterior motives.

My main question is who is it attacking the base and why ? It surely can't be the series' regular villains (if there are going to be any) as my understanding was that this ship isn't in our galaxy or anywhere close (otherwise Odyssey could go pick them up).

The Stargates were created by man. They evolved. They rebelled. There are many copies.

And they have a plan.
