Lincecum or Haren

I've been reading the arguments on both sides between who is the better pitcher in the NL this season and I don't get the Haren side. Granted, he has a better WHIP and BAA (last time I looked) but what Haren gains in those stats he loses in stuff like Wins and Strikeouts. I'd say these pitchers are pretty even and if Haren didn't pitch for Arizona, than he would have more wins. Still, I do think Lincecum deserved the start, based on what he's doing this year after winning the Cy Young last year. The other Cy Young, Cliff Lee, seems to be falling on his face so that makes what Tim is doing a lot more visible.

I slept during the whole thing. No interesting stories like last year when they talked about Josh Hamilton nonstop.

I'm making bold predictions for the end of the season:

♣ - Division Winner
¤ - Wild Card

AL East:
New York Yankees ♣
Boston Red Sox ¤
Toronto Blue Jays
Tampa Bay Rays
Baltimore Orioles

AL Central:
Minnesota Twins ♣
Chicago White Sox
Detroit Tigers
Kansas City Royals
Cleveland Indians

AL West:
Texas Rangers ♣
Los Angeles Angels
Seattle Mariners
Oakland Athletics

NL East:
Atlanta Braves ♣
Philadelphia Phillies
New York Mets
Florida Marlins

NL Central:
St. Louis Cardinals ♣
Milwaukee Brewers
Chicago Cubs
Houston Astros
Cincinnati Reds
Pittsburgh Pirates

NL West:
Los Angeles Dodgers ♣
San Francisco Giants ¤
Colorado Rockies
San Diego Padres
Arizona Diamondbacks

It is nice to see the Giants getting some love nationally. Whether or not they do pull off the wild card, so far it's been a greatly surprising season.

Starbreaker, the Braves? Based on what? The Phillies just won nine out of ten games. The Braves are 6 games back and are 5-5 in the last 10. And they're two games below .500.

:wtf: That's just nonsense.

WHIP, BAA, Ks, and ERA are the ONLY things a starting pitcher's individual performance should be evaluated on.

Wins are meaningless because that is a team stat. A great pitcher with a piss-poor offense is going to mean fewer wins, and no fault whatsoever to the pitcher.

Haren has Lincecum beat by an ok margin in WHIP, ERA, and BAA, and is only trailing Lincecum in Ks.

I don't see how anyone could remotely suggest that Lincecum is having a better year than Haren so far.

Still, I do think Lincecum deserved the start, based on what he's doing this year after winning the Cy Young last year.

The only reason I'm not bothered by Lincecum getting the start over Haren is the fact that he's the reigning Cy Young Champion. He IS having a good year this year, but Haren is having a better one.

Based on my hometown bias of course. And they're about to make another big trade to get a bat. We've almost cut our dead weight.

I am pissed at the angle they showed the president throw the ball! You can't see how bad he threw it! bull! shit!

Sigh... the NL can't catch a break.

Something I always like hearing.

And I just watched the clip with the true baseball pitching angel (from behind the pitcher) of Obama's throw, it didn't bounce, and wasn't a terrible throw. Not a strike, but at least it wasn't as bad as his bowling. :)

I like this part. I keep thinking that Detroit will falter (no offense to you Tigers fans out there) and it will come down to the ChiSox and the Twinkies.

Good job by the AL in the All-Star game: twelve in a row!

I was amused at how both highly-touted All-Star starters got lit up early.

I was hoping to see Wakefield pitch an inning or two. It would've been fun to see the NL batters go from a high-heat pitcher to sub-60-mph knuckleballs.
