After Voyager, whats the order of your favourite ST series?

Ooh never watched any BSG... as an avid Voy fan, would I like it?

I LOVE nuBSG. Sure, it's darker than Voyager but if you appreciate them both for what they are and don't expect one to be like the other there's no reason to not like both.

As for the original BSG I could never decide if Starbuck or Apollo were cuter. I had to keep watching to see if I could figure it out. ;)

As for the OP question:

Voy, TOS, TNG, DS9 Ent (cute dog though)

DS9,TNG
VOY,ENT
TOS

The new BSG is a great show. I think they get a little bit too involved with the emotional state of the characters at times though.

Sorry, can't share your enthusiasm for BSG. I think the characters in that series lacks everything the Voyager characters have and the overall scenario is too dark and depressive for my taste.

I must admit I was emotionally wrung out after watching the mini-series but I found it worth sticking with. :)

I can never quite decide! I started off as a TNG fan, then discovered TOS a couple of years ago and was crazy about it, and then discovered Voyager which became my favourite almost overnight. I've just started on DS9 which I'm enjoying a lot, and haven't gotten round to ENT yet, so, for me...

VOY > TOS > TNG > DS9 > ENT.

At the moment anyway. :D

And I ADORE nuBSG - you need only look at Roslin and Adama to see that it is possible to have a beautiful, fulfilling relationship between the two leaders of the fleet without it feeling contrived or taking over the show. ;)

In a word NO!

BSG is essentially Voyager done the way the folks from DS9 would have preferred to do things.

As an avid Niner, I generally suggest that Voyager fans stay away from BSG. If you cannot appreciate the larger cast, complex characters and "darker" setting/themes found on DS9, then you probably will not be able to take BSG. Ron Moore had a very bad experiece when he tried working on Voyager. He, like most of the DS9 writers, found that he could not get behind alot of the "creative" decisions on Voyager. He was openly derisive of B&B's steadfast determination to ignore the reality of Voyager's situation. BSG incorporates alot of the struggles and sense of continuity that he found lacking in Voyager.

So no, if you consider Voyager your favorite version of Trek, you will hate BSG.

Sorry for the almost double post, but I can't not reply! Voyager is by far my favourite Trek, and I love BSG with a passion! (I also enjoy DS9 very much, for what it's worth.) I like them both for different reasons, though, and I'm not sure I could directly compare the two, nor do I think anyone should.

You're right, of course, about RDM wanting to do certain things with Voyager, not being able to and then taking those ideas to BSG, but that doesn't mean that one can't love both - I do, and so do many of my friends. I'd definitely urge everyone to give it a try, and stick with it. :D

Voyager, TNG then TOS. Never got into DS9, but I plan on trying again at some point. Never really watched Ent either.

I also love BSG!

I disagree. I love both Voyager and BSG. I probably like BSG more, honestly. Actually, I would have originally liked to see many of the elements that are in BSG in Voyager. However, now that I see them played out in BSG, I think that they are just too dark and gritty for a Trek series.

This seriously made me lol.

This is why I have to watch DS9 at some point. I just don't get the arrogance of some niners and I'm hoping that I'll understand it better once I watch the show.

It really is a very cool show. Very different from VOY, very different from TNG (and infinitely different from TOS), but Lord, is it addicting.

*gasp*

We actually agree on something!!!!

The world shall end tomorrow....

After recently rewatching Voyager, my order would have to be:

DS9 > ENT > TOS/TNG > VOY

Voyager was brilliant for its first couple of seasons, but I really started giving up around season 5 for various reasons.

I got into BSG myself last month. While nothing like the original, I also got the impression it's what Ron Moore would've liked Voyager to have been. I'm more of a fan of dark stories, so I consider it that aspect to be one of BSG's best strengths.

I have to admit, after the miniseries, I did wonder if any of the characters were actually likeable, but I picked out some favourites pretty early on in the first season. Starbuck's the only character I've not really taken to.

Overally, I think it's a pretty rewarding universe to get involved in :) I just wish I'd got into it before the final few episodes :p

Honestly, I do think that there are a lot of things we could agree on. ;)

As for DS9 which is also mentioned in this thread, I'm still surprised by the hostility some "niners" show against Voyager. OK, the series were very different but so were also DS) and TNG.

Due to stupid policy from a TV station where I live who only did air one season of DS9, I haven't seen more than season 1 and occasional episodes after that so I'm not in the position to come up with a fair review of the series. But I do think that Voyager had the better characters.

OK, DS9 had some very interesting characters, like Kira, Odo and Quark. But the others were basically the same typical Starfleet people which we have seen in TOS and TNG. In my opinion, the Voyager characters had more interesting background stories in many ways and were more unique too. I also find Voyager's original premise about a lost starship more interesting.

I'm not putting down DS9 in any way, I just liked Voyager better but I guess that's personal taste.

But I still cant understand why some "niners" find Voyager so repulsive. Are the series really that different?

I like Voyager better too. Kira, Odo, and Quark were my favs too alonside Garak, who is one of my favourites from all Trek combined. However, Voyager's crew has still a different kind of meaning for me.

Yes, they are very different but that's why I like them both. I enjoy DS9 for the drama, I like Voy. for the action/adventure. I wouldn't want all my Trek shows to be the same.

IMPO, I just think DS9er think their show is prefect therefore they look down on Voy. due to it's flaws. However due to that, the DS9 forum is boring because everybody agrees about most stuff. With Voyager, you know as well as I do the topic of Kes alone makes for great debate because love or hate her, everybody has an opinion about her which makes for endless conversation/debate.

The fact that Voy. is flawed is actually a plus for message boards because like you said before, it gives us something to talk about longer after the shows run is up.
