Streaming era missed opportunities

If the impact Voyager had compacted 5 decks like that, something similar must have happened with the saucer. And the work needed to rebuild THAT??

Voyager was in way worse shape, already having structural failure before an having an uncontrolled bellyflop. Data managed to glide the saucer in horizontally, and we saw that the front edge of the saucer section was undamaged after barreling through more than one hilltop. I'm willing to accept that the structure of the lower decks was largely intact.

The Ent D never would have gotten a new engineering hull if the Syracuse hadn't lost her saucer, presumably in the Dominion War. The restoration is a bit of a stretch but not as big of a one was as you presented, assuming I'm right about the lower saucer structure.

Which, in all honesty, waters down whatever death he had. Which is just another problem Trek has, an inability to have any real, lasting consequences to anything.

Though that is more a general Trek problem, CBS is just following the tradition.
Kirk comes back after death! Come on, we all know people didn't like him dying on Generations!

;)

I will say the first 6 or 7 episodes are better than the last two or three. Wasn't as bad as Picard season 1 final but, even as someone who liked the season, their was a drop. I sort of feel the story was over as soon as the Amanda Plummer character died and then Shaw died and only thing sort of working at that point was seeing them on the Enterprise-D again.

James T. Kirk as portrayed by Shatner is my favorite fictional character, ever. He is an icon of 1960's thought and action. His day is over in my opinion, I let him go after the Shatnerverse novels taught me to be careful what I wish for.

TOS Kirk/Spock and Bones all together are my all time favorite Trek characters. The only other ones that come close for me is PIcard and Quark.

Picard, in my opinion, hasn't aged particularly well. Quark and Odo remind me a lot of Spock and McCoy.

Garak is probably the greatest secondary character in the history of the franchise.

I have to admit some of my desire for Star Trek:Legacy was built around the idea that they would find some excuse to bring Shaw back and we would get to see more of the character.
In theory, I would prefer Shaw to stay dead, but his likeness used for an experimental EEH programme. He signed consent for something years ago, with his usual "whatever" attitude, and his likeness was picked.

Oh I disagree about Picard. As much as I love Kirk I think Picard is exactly the type of person to want out of a leader. Smart and who takes measured responses but is also a man with a strong sense of principles. I don't mind that he is kind of detached from the crew. He is exactly the kind of person you want especially out of a military leader. Good at diplomacy and strategy.

The type of person you want as a military leader is Kirk or Sisko or, maybe, Janeway. Those who understand a bigger picture exists beyond their chosen morals. Those that can evaluate when to push the envelope.

Of course, mileage will vary.

I think I would prefer KIrk in a combat situation. He has shown great skill and originality in combat situations. Picard I would want more when it came to diplomatic missions. Sisko I sort of see in the same vein as Kirk. Great Solider. Also good at long term building. Janeway was to all over the map due to bad writing. Which did make her interesting but also kind of crazy at times.

I think Picard season 3 was competent storytelling.
Not really. The damn thing is a mess. What year does it take place in? The 2401 answer we all believe is the result of changes made multiple times, even during post production. Likewise, the sloppy writing on whether the Titan is a new ship, a refit, or whatever. Or the exact nature of what Frontier Day is celebrating, which we can actually track from the initial spoilers leaking to the episode airing and see how often that changed. IE, the spoilers said it was the Federation's anniversary, but by the episode's airdate we find out it's the anniversary of the NX-01's launch, even though the NX-01 itself is not present for those celebrations.

Everyone, even the season's supporters have agreed the story is easily the weakest thing about the season, as everyone knew the audience was only watching for the TNG reunion and wouldn't care about the quality of the storytelling.

If you take away the nostalgia, what is the story? That's the problem with much of the CBS live-action shows. There is very little there beyond "remember when?"

Nostalgia should be the frosting on a well-made cake. Not the cake itself.
Prodigy did the mix right. The nostalgia was only used where it actually had a justification within the story, not the other way around.

Much of the time, SNW Pike just feels so watered down. Another reason why "Valles Marineris" surprised me.
Pike has been my favorite long before Mount.

Mount is intriguing because he had that reflective nature before but built in to acceptance.
