Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

I do recall some issues being voiced over Ortegas having gotten the least amount of attention amongst the main cast in the first two seasons, and indeed, I believe she was the only character to not get her own episode in those seasons. Still, even in the first two seasons she was usually memorable in all the scenes she was in, so she certainly wasn't being neglected or anything like that. If anything, it could be possible this show is having trouble juggling its ensemble, as evidenced by the fact this season seems to having M'Benga and Chapel in a reduced role so far.

Then again, that could just be related to rumors there's going to be a huge medical centered episode later this season which those two will essentially be carrying by themselves.

I think the showrunners made it worse for themselves in Season 2, because they promised "Mortegas" and we got a B-plot in one of the episodes where she lost her memory, and when she started regaining it she was like "I'm Erica Ortegas, and I fly the ship!" Your job title isn't your personality - it doesn't explain what makes you tick.

We know there's going to be a big M'Benga episode - I think it's 7? Not sure if Chapel will be featured or not.

IIRC, we're supposed to be getting a sickbay centric episode which is said to be "Star Trek's version of The Pitt." I would assume both M'Benga and Chapel will have central roles in such an episode.

Ahh, okay. I knew Episode 6 was supposed to be like The Pitt, but I just thought it meant covering an hour in real time. I had completely overlooked that also probably meant a medical drama.

I'm looking forward to the upcoming episode, fingers crossed that it's fun! I know I've seen 100+ movies that could be classified as noir/neo-noir, plus some shows in the style as well. The black and white shot in the intro gives me some hope that they're really going to lean into the feel of it.

So, and I’m sure this has been discussed at some previous point, but horror-centric director Axelle Carolyn and scribe Robbie Thompson, who joined up for “The Griffin Incident,” are back next year for 5x03.

Could be a direct continuation of some sort. Could of course be something else entirely. But “The Griffin Incident” goes to show, you don’t get Carolyn unless you’re playing to get spooky. And having her team up with the same writer again - interesting.

I don’t think it’s that people hate SNW...it’s just that people can’t reconcile the differences between it and TOS. Stuff like how the Enterprise is so different, uniforms don’t match The Cage or WNMHGB, Uhura serving on the ship pre-Kirk, everyone forgetting about T’Pring and The Gorn, etc…

Do people REALLY hate SNW SO MUCH that they REFUSE to let the "alternate timeline" thread die?

Not everyone who likes the alternate timeline idea hates the show. Though that is probably true for people who want Discovery to be in a alternate timeline. I think people forget that alternate timelines can be cool and fun. Not just something to dump shows and movies into you don't like.

Starbase 80 (DAYUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM), Department 12, Section 31.

I see a trend developing. :)
