Neelix is #2 on this list of "The 5 Most Annoying Star Trek Characters

Speaking of Maihar'du I wonder if a thread about the most influential stoic character, one that didn't speak a line of dialogue, in all of Trek would go anywhere? TOS I'm not sure of but TNG had Mr. Homn, DS9 had Morn and Maihar'du, VOY had Ayala, ENT had Chef... These folks have left an indelible mark on Star Trek and deserve some acknowledgment.

Most annoying in all of Trek? That's kind of tough as it's all subjective. Neelix certainly is up there, but if we're ignoring one time appearances and the movies, I would have to say Grand Nagus Zek. Which is what they were intending with that annoying voice, obtuse attitude, and then later infatuation with Ishka. Annoying without a doubt but he always brought Maihar'du along so that kind of balances I guess.

I think that you are unfair to Kes. She was definitely not "bland".

She was brave, curious, determined and wanted to learn and explore. She showed a lot of courage in episodes like Caretaker, Persistence Of Vision, Cold Fire and many other episodes.

If you want bland and boring Trek characters, I could easily come up with 15-20 characters who were a lot more "bland" and "boring", including the whole ensembles of ENT and DSC.


I don't find Q annoying, I think that he was interesting and funny. One of my top 5 favorites of Star Trek!

Q just turned out to be such a fun character and a great foil. In the end, he turned out not to be evil, but to be mischevious and someone who actually loved humanity, most especially Captains Picard and Janeway.

I was really touched by that final goodbye Picard had with Q at the end of season 2 of PIC.

Q is omnipotent. He will always be around.

Neelix was severely annoying, made more so by being a regular.

I didn't think Alexander was annoying at all, let alone at the top of the list. Of course I know him mostly from DS9.

Wesley Crusher was very annoying, though I agree he was partly rehabitated by "The First Duty". And yes, it was poor writing at fault, made me think none of them had ever been around kids. Wheaton was fine when they gave him good things to do, but that wasn't very often. And the bridge, really? No way should he have had duty there until several seasons in after he'd been to the Academy. The bridge is not a good place for "take your child to work day" and PIcard should have stuck to that.

Couldn't agree more with all three of those. I know Keiko gets on some fans' nerves, but the way their marriage and their love was depicted just rings true.

Yeah. They treated her like shit on DS9.

The whole "I can give up my career as I can just do schooling" like schooling is a job you just turn up one day and do. And didn't go with the obvious fucking choice: weird plants from the gamma quadrant.

Then when she got pregnant Rosalind Chao said she knew as soon as a kid was involved she'd be side-lined as they would then have all the requirements around child actors. And sure enough, she was.

They at least tried to give some sense of character to her in TNG, albeit mildly.

That said she is VERY good in The Assignment. Chao delivered that with such cold, calculated glee - and I love the line "No, Miles, you're not telling anyone. If you do, I'll stop her heart forever."

Evil Keiko was kinda sexy.

I don't know that I'd call Lwaxana annoying, overbearing yeah.
But she was in some episodes that had real substance. I do remember that when they first introduced her, the dynamic between her and Picard was different than it was by the end where he did everything to avoid her...

To me Deanna Troi was the most annoying until they broke her out of her hyper-emotional state that she was in during the first season. by the end of TNG she was soooooo transformed for the better.

I never bought the Neelix/Kes relationship. To me they both came across as too platonic from the start, and then in the one episode where Kes plants one on him, it just seemed awkward....

then just like that they "broke up" so that they could explore more storylines with Kes (even romantic ones)...lame....
