Stop making every thread about you and Kes. Seriously.
This is the most you problem. You can just as easily not derail treads to go on and on about a character that, honestly, 99% of folks on the board don't give more than a few seconds thought about every once in a while.
I'm sorry, my friend but you're
wrong in this case.
I've gone through the latest 40 pages of this thread.
On page 120 this comment shows up:
Voyager also seemed to really come into its prime too late. Ditching Kes and bringing in Seven saved that show. Enterprise was fine with the cast it had, but needed something to make it compelling and not just TNG with steel handrails.
And my reply was:
Ditching Kes was downright rude.
Then another poster writes:
Character was ill-conceived non-sense. Which is why she was replaced. Should’ve torpedoed Kim at the same time.
And my reply is:
That's rude!
I don't want to turn this into another "Kes -bashing and me defending Kes" thread but I must state this: Kes was a great character and Kim did have some premise but suffered from bad writing.
Then the subject isn't mentioned at all until page 140 when the poster of the first comment about the subject strikes again:
It was just a bunch of Chakotay, Harry Kim and Kes ( Mea culpa!) clones running starfleet for a few centuries.
And my reply is:
And actually rude to point out three characters who are 50 times better than all characters in ENT, DSC, PIC and all series and movies after VOY together.
OK, maybe not a nice comment from me when it comes to those characters in later series but it's actually my opinion. However, I wrote it as a reply to comment which I found rude and unnecessary, especially when it is the same poster who constantly brings up the same subject.
Then I get this reply from the same poster:
No Lynx, it's not rude at all. It's an opinion. It's different from yours. Remarkably, and someone in higher authority will no doubt correct me if I am wrong with amazing rapidity, this forum isn't about you or 90's c-lister obsessions.
And then the circus starts. Again! And I didn't start it.
Please also read pages 140-143, read the comments and take a look at the avatars and posted pictures.
Step outside yourself for one second... imagine the things you have said about characters other people like and the potential effect your words have had.
Well, I'm not the nicest guy around, I admit that. I do have a hot temper and unfortunately there are those who take advantage of that.
I admit that I'm critical to many aspects of recent years of Star Trek and that I'm not that found of certain characters from certain series and movies.
But I'm far from the downright insulting and should I say instigating comments which have been used against characters I happen to like and also used against other things I like, as you can see if you read the posts on this page closely.
OK, they might be other people's opinions. But in that case, I must also have the rights to state my opinions.
And once again, I would be very happy if we could focus on the
real subject for this thread which is if Star Trek should take a rest or not.
Nothing, if that's what you want.
Paint by number bland network procedurals are a dime a dozen. Very basic. They are like comfort food of sorts. Canned soup. You're home sick, open up a can of Campbells chicken noodle or tomato soup, add pre-packaged crackers and a can of ginger ale and you're set.
Grandma's cooking might not be much better. Or maybe it is. That's also comfort food. It's safe. It's familiar. No surprises. Nothing really unexpected. Not going out of the box or deviating from the recipe. Made it a million times and nobody complained.
That's fine. You know it's not gourmet food, it's not 5 Michelin stars. You accept that. It's grandma's food.
Others aren't happy with thst. They want bold, new5, exciting. They want some new fusion dish or want new cuisine. They are tired of Mexican and are looking to sample Argentine or Peruvian or Cuban foods. Similar flavor profiles but in a bold, different direction.
You want classic Star Trek? Formulaic Star Trek? What you are comfortable with Star Trek? Wonderful. You do you. Others want something different. Something outside their comfort zone. Something bold, fresh, or unexpected. That's good for them.
Sorry that this current round of Trek is not to your liking. Maybe the next round will. Until then, there are 6 classic Trek series to watch. There are classic Trek novels to read. They aren't new products, but they are still around.
That's life. We can either curse the dark or light a candle. I'm not a fan of the new stuff, either. SNW is the closest I've got but it's not the same. PRO and LD were nice but, likewise, not quite the same and all current Trek suffers from limited episode count so what I do enjoy from those series is limited in relation to pre-2004 episode counts.
Lather, rinsing, and repeating on here doesn't help. Playing the same broken, lamenting record isn't going to bring classics Trek back. Cursing the darkness is not preferable to lighting a candle.
Thanks for a well-written comment. There are many points that you bring up here which I understand and actually agree with.
As I wrote in a previous post here, before the thread was drenched in attacks on certain characters and even music which I like, I've started to realize that it is time for me to simply abandon Star Trek.
No, not really abandon Star Trek since it would be devastating to abandon TOS, TNG, DS9 and the first seasons of VOY.
But I have no doubts about abandon current Star Trek since I don't find it entertaining or interesting.
If a new series shows up which I might like, I might check it out. But I'm not gonna waste time, money or efforts on something which i don't find interesting or enjoyable. It has to be really good and enjoyable for me if I will start watching it.
OK, I will be sad if Star Trek cease to exist because I find it too good as a concept to be wiped out and replaced by sword-waving bearded gnomes from depressive eras in the history of mankind, blood-splattering "action" series of low quality or downright depressive stuff. But it would be even worse of Star Trek would become the same.
My most immediate concern would be the problem with malfunctioning DVDs which has been a problem for me in recent years and the possibility to replace such items if necessary. Let's just hope that such DVDS from TOS, TNG, DS9 and VOY will be available for years to come.
As for the books, TrekLit is a sad chapter now since the publisher of those books seem to be wiping out TOS, TNG, DS9 and VOY from the books and instead focus on the newer series. I must also admit that my newborn interest for newer Star Trek books was wiped out by a book which content really angered me.
However, I'm digging for older stuff. There are gaps in my DS9 book collection which I have to fill and I also have to buy a few TNG books as well and since they were published long ago, I'll have to search for them.
I will continue to hang around at the forums for TOS, TNG, DS9 and VOY even if it is a bit risky. But still nice to discuss with some people there.
Maybe I'll be burying myself in my golden cage by constantly watch the series I like on DVDs. But it's at least better than waste time of things I don't like.
