that is a valid choice to make, i did watch about that of prodigy, but it looked to much like a starwars series to me, and for me starwars is for movies, and startrek for tv. but i used to try watching a whole season for saying nah. but getting older the patients is thinner.
I did this at 10. The patience got better but the variety of choices also increased. As I said up thread, life is too short to spend on entertainment I don't like.
Prodigy very much becomes very interesting Star Trek, as the first season proceeds. I quit after the early episodes as it streamed. I'm glad I went and picked up the discs and gave it another spin.
I think it does help if one is already interested in Voyager.

I lived through it. Keeping up became a chore.
Night Court fans were lucky that the NBC revival got three seasons of 13-15 episodes apiece. These days a three-season run with about 45 episodes is above average.
Just quietly dropping in to say that I love Kes and that she’s one of my favorite aspects of early Voyager. The concept of the character, her species and relationship to Neelix might be ill-conceived and the writers very obviously ran out of ideas for what to do with her rather quickly, but despite that I think she’s interesting, intelligent, warm and nicely plays off most of the other characters. And I think a great deal of that was due to how Jennifer Lien portrayed her with such wide-eyed curiosity, beyond-her-years wisdom and that intriguing duality of fragility and strength. And what a voice, too!
From what I understand Lien was a shy character dealing with mental health issues while working on the show, and I think if you watch her performance closely you can kind of see some of that slip in there, grounding her character in a way almost none of the others were. She certainly wasn’t perfect and there’s definitely moments where her performance doesn’t seem right for the material, but then there’s also episodes where she shines and elevates what she’s given, like in “Warlord”, which is a tour de force of delicious overacting, or early on in “Eye of the Needle”, where she’s instrumental in recognising the doctor’s potential.
I don’t mind and don’t care that she’s not more popular with fans and it’s been en vogue to be vocal about not liking her as long as I can remember. But for me she’ll always be one of the reason why I love Voyager. I don’t like the fact that they wrote her out of the show, but then again, I don't dwell on it either. It’s literally been thirty years! “Fury” I find interesting as a concept, but so-so in execution. There was an interesting story in there about the terryfiying ways old age and dementia can change a loved one. And weird time travel episodes were a certified 90s Trek specialty. But ultimately they failed to make Kes really feel like Kes. I always thought it cool, though, that the producers made sure to get Lien back for a guest spot, to make a point of publicly demonstrating that there wasn’t any animosity between them and the actress.

To put it in perspective - the first season of The Twilight Zone had thirty-six episodes.
They started filming in July and had twenty episodes in the can by the time the first episode aired in late September.
They took a break for the holidays at the end of November and resumed filming in January for the final sixteen episodes, wrapping up in April.
They filmed for almost nine straight months of writing, filming, scoring and editing.

Oh, I adore Kes. I don't find here near as boring as she's made out by some. However, I definitely agree the writers didn't know what to do with her.
Dramatically she could have had an incredible arc where she grew and changed each season until she became in season 7 how she was depicted in "Fury". Instead of Janeway and Borg transwarp shenanigans, the finale could have Kes transcending into a celestial or non-corporeal being and flinging Voyager home as a parting gift. Sadly arcs weren't a thing or planned out that far in advance.
Each season could have given us a noticeably more mature and ever changing Kes. But that's not what happened. Instead we had the perpetual pixie that was as dynamic and dramatic as Harry Kim.
Oddly enough when the writing for Seven and the Doctor got much better the writing for everyone else got even worse than before.
Tuvok seemed to be the better of the non Doctor and Seven characters for being consistent.

The expense of the episodes plays a part. Discovery cost, inflated for inflation, more than double what TNG episodes cost: and TNG was not cheap, and SNW costs even more. Combined with the fact that viewership inevitably falls off and actors and crew expect raises (as anyone would), it's not worth it to make 7 season series with lots of episodes.
The downside is the seasons are not long enough to get out of what I'll call "the crater of disappointment" that an early bad or lackluster episode can cause.
Take as example Rings of Power. Incredibly bloated budget. $58 million per episode. Absolutely gorgeous show, i think most will agree, even if they don't like it. And it just doesn't get enough time to grow on people. So much time is spent on trifling stuff that you neither feel the cinematic experience they are trying to deliver of the regular comfort-food you want from television.
I think that has happened to Trek in the streaming era too. Trek has worked as broadcast television, as first run syndication, and often it has done ok as a movie. But this uncanny valley between all three doesn't seem to be where a lot of viewers want it. Or at least fans. I still think Trek is fine, it's just not performing as well as the current western shows. The expectations are too high.

Jennifer Lien and Jeri Ryan were both better than the original concepts of their characters really needed. The writers were able to realize that Ryan was more than a babe in a tight suit and started developing her character. Unfortunately, they never figured out how to develop Kes. A two-year-old alien with a nine year lifespan in a relationship with a weird older alien guy was not a good starting point, though.
