They're cadets, the most they should be doing is third contacts. :p
Lol. Yeah. They would probably start dating thise contacts and we can get more bad YA romance writing. Lol

If I don't like something after a couple of attempts I walk away. Let others have their fun, but I'm not wasting my time with something that's not a fit for my tastes.
No. Its star trek. As fans of the franchise its our duty to know if they are damaging it.

Well whatever you think of star trek or any other series, they dont really owe you to do stuff the way you like. It would sometimes be nice if they did and it might even be "better" than what we have now but it would not be the first time series changed and maybe rebooted (parts) after some changes who knows which way it will go in the future.

The actors and writers seem to have fun. And well you can review it as it is and critique it.

Not....really. Not all of us.

You do you, but I'm not part of that "rule."
Ive been a star trek fan since I was 4. Trekkers/Trekkies have kept the franchise going for 60 years. Why would I stay blind a show that I feel is damaging the brand? The ratings on rotten tomatoes and the imdb reflect the fan dissatisfaction. Hopefully someone at paramount is paying attention.

I see I'm not the only person who doesn't trust Caleb's mother.

Doing a rewatch and two scenes stand out -

i) Caleb suspects Anisha joined the Venari Ral, she protests, "No, I was never one of them, Caleb ..."

ii) Before Athena drops into the atmosphere, the guard says she recognises Anisha, is about to name her, but Anisha blasts the guard with a phaser. Who is she really?

Or he just recognizes her because of her previous association with Nus Braka

a glaring example is gleefully blowing up the ship in the first episode.
There was no glee in it, and it was in self defence.

On a serious note, presumably you've seen that at least one website is advertising for an article writer with the prerequisite that you must be a hater of SFA?

There was a litteral chuckle about it right after we see the ship blow up

The reason for why a ship "needs to be destroyed"(there are plenty of examples before of at least trying to not obliterate an enemy) is less important than the reaction of the crew about it in this case, as long as there was an actual reason

Something that just occurred to me thinking about this episode.

Wasnt the scene where Caleb's mom checks fingernails and looks for malnutrition weird?

Lady did you see your son? Writers we saw him when he was arrested by Starfleet. Dude been on the "run" for 12 or 13 years and looks like he ready to go pose for a fireman beefcake calendar.

I get what you might have wanted to present, but the Caleb we saw showed that lifestyle doesnt necessarily lead to visible physical ailments

Not really. I get your point. But it didn't really stand out to me.

The security guard wanted to see their hands too.

I think it shows the disconnect in what the Caleb character was meant to have gone through and the fit smokeshow they decided to play said character.

I think her response logically fits, but its the look and health of Caleb from the beginning that kind of doesnt fit his life

We are to assume he's had it rough, in spite of the actor being incredibly fit, because thats what the show tells us. He did have some sort of parasitic infection in the first episode, though. It's one of those Hollywood things. Movies and TVs are rife with them.

Because it's a product. Ratings are not important as viewership. You want Paramount to pay attention? Don't give them attention.
