Spoilers Starfleet Academy General Discussion Thread

Getting back the ratings and a possible third season, I've a couple friends on the Star Trek cruise and Gina Yashere said at a talk today that while they haven't heard anything official yet,
they just finished filming season 2 and she strongly implied it's a cliffhanger, and the sets are still standing.
Thanks for sharing that bit of a scoop! I think it‘s a bad call to end season two on a cliffhanger, considering how unlikely it probably is that they’ll greenlight a third season. I don’t think any studio would let themselves be influenced in their decision to continue the show or not by the fact that the showrunners decided to end it on a cliffhanger. So this has every potential to just be super annoying to viewers.

But it is good news that the sets are still standing. That means there‘s still definitely a chance for them to continue production.

I’m gonna respond to this in the general discussion thread, as I’m sure this will be of interest to more than just the readers of the Nielsen ratings thread. :)

People do not watch new Trek to be entertained but to find flaws and nitpick and insult writers and fans.

Fans love doing those things even when they enjoy the Star Trek they are watching. That is kind of what Fandom is about. Collecting merch, finding creative ways to express that love such as fan fiction, fan films, making models etc and talking non-stop about the thing they love. Including the things they don't like about it.

Granted as you get older you probably don't read the tech manuals as much or read all the new novels etc but the non-stop talking part of fandom never goes away.

I guess it's possible they'll go back and do what Discovery did at the very end, should they not be renewed. So we at least get some closure in a 20-minute end segment.

God, I hate it when that happens (CSI: Miami ended on a cliffhanger :scream:).

Scorpion ended with the hero characters mad at each other and reunited while at odds at the end of the finale episode.

I prefer the kind of ending where you get the impression where if people leave/split up, it's on good terms.

I'd be upset if it's not renewed... The wait is killing... Hoping everyday by FB feed is flooded with BREAKING NEWS articles concerning the S3 renewal... But as the hope grows stronger, so is the fear... Things are not looking all that positive, and Karim's post seems to hint at things... With him saying we should be glad to have these 20 episodes, makes me think he's not expecting there to be more... :wah:

I like the show, but i'm not optimistic it will be renewed for a third season.

(These haters actually think that by wishing SFA to be cancelled, they will get their Legacy show. )

Legacy won't come back because SFA is cancelled. Legacy will return when VisionQuest takes the world by storm and becomes a massive hit. Matalas becomes a world famous name and when the Paramount people see him getting his EMMY, will be like 'GET HIM SIGNED! THIS MAN NEEDS TO BE IN CHARGE OF ALL TREK TV PROJECTS" Possible.

Legacy isn't happening. Thank fuck.

It makes me laugh / groan fans still want to leave the door open to some fabled resurrection in the future and that after some extended hiatus, the new iteration of Trek will just so happen to align with their vague expectations.

As fractured as the fanbase is, one sentiment many seem to share is that Trek ought to / must continue on. In spite of 60 years in production, shows / movies both in the double-digits, 40+ seasons, hundreds upon hundreds of hours of content (a couple of dozen of which are actually quite good!). In spite of diminishing returns.

As to the subject of scores / ratings: It's comfort food for many, which is why it's judged on such an absurdly generous curve.

Lots of people liked Picard season 3. I liked it.

Edit: I just checked and it's the highest rated season of live action Kurtzman Trek on these forums.
