But, at this point this critique of fashion feels disingenuous. On the one hand, things haven't changed enough and yet now we need justification for every single change. Imagine going to a history museum and demanding every single change be explained to you.

No "and". Thats it. Hes a male klingon wearing a pleated skirt. Just like Sam and Genesis wear.

And Star Trek has shown unisex uniforms of this style before. So, not an issue.

Actually Jake Sisko wore a correct futuristic outfit per the era he was from. I was surprised by that. No more walmart clothing off the shelves. But yeah the cadets clothing does not look futuristic at all.

Frankly a lot of future Trek clothing doesn't look "futuristic." Daniels' temporal jumpsuit? Yes. The Relativity crew's uniforms? Not nearly as much.

The Relativity looked like carpet swatches from my hardware store. It was awful.

Look at picard season 1 and 2. I could easily design civilian clothing for that show. Picard at one point wore an outfit exactly like 20th 21st century clothing.

Theres an old show call Buck Rogers in the 25th century. They at least attempted to design "futuristic" clothing for the characters. When Buck wore 20th century clothing that he was accustomed to it really differentiated thst he was from a different time. Star trek used to do that but have fallen short of the mark much over the last few years. Seeing Jake dressed properly gives me hope they are changing course
