Is that what it is? I’ve been looking and looking at that shot after hearing hints, and not seeing him (or anything else)…

I always found it contrived that Gabriel Bell looked close enough for Sisko to impersonate him. What would Sisko have done if Gabriel Bell had been a short, ginger female?
He didn’t, especially; but until the Riots, no one had ever heard of Bell. All the historical photos were of the guy of the name at the Riots. That’s why once Sisko took his place in history, all Bell’s photos were actually of Sisko, instead of the original guy. It didn’t actually matter what actual-Bell looked like, after that point.
So if Jay-Den can wear a skirt, the uniforms aren't gendered. So why did Caleb have to lose his hair??
Duh, he was in San Fran, he could have just looked up those guys that turned Robin Williams into Mrs. Doubtfire.
He got a hair cut because it was gross from spending months in prison. Dude also had a fucking tapeworm inside him. The long hair isn't the issue, the hygiene issue of it potentially being filled with parasites was. But what does Jay-den wearing a skirt have to do with anything?

No, but the length at which the hair became not worth salvaging could be an issue.
I took that scene as the simple outcome of Jay-Den having completed his Academy pre-orientation forms in advance due to having intentionally chosen an Academy career, so he already had specific medical settings on file with the U.S.S. Athena's computer system. Caleb only just signed up for the Academy, so he didn't have a non-default haircut setting selected.
It was a power move to show he needed to get in line.
He would've had Dax dye her hair and crouch?
Honestly since people were seemingly basing what Bell looked like based on the guy in the news reports (at least that's what the historical records reflected), honestly Bashir probably could have filled in and no one would have known the difference.

The prop was dumb. It was obviously made from a giant gummi bear or gummi candy. Probably melted in a microwave and poured it into a mold and cooled it in the freezer. When Obrien was eating his on DS9 it was more like a lollipop not a giant gummi candy.
I really loved getting to see the world through SAM's eyes. All the cute little cartoon details and instant access to information. Good stuff. And I thought they did a good job of making sure it was her story, that she wasn't overshadowed by the Trek history she was digging in to. I wasn't expecting that.
Jake's story was such a beautiful counterpoint to "The Visitor". From that world where Jake is destroyed by the knowledge that his father is alive, to this? I was in tears.

The DS9 music in the end credits still has sound effects on it...did they just pull it straight from a finished episode instead of using the actual music cue?!
Although the version used is obviously an edit (and possibly combines more than one version) so maybe the SFX were intentional for an attempt at added nostalgia?
