Kudos to them recreating the Bajoran Orb perfectly

I wonder which orb it is. The narrator doesn’t specify. Orb of the Emissary would make thematic sense

The Family tree has a couple errors. They misspelled Kasidy with two Ss, and it lists Ben’s mother as ‘Jenna’ not ‘Sarah’, Sarah is on the tree connected to Joesph, I guess Jenna was meant to be his step mother and they got it backwards.

Jake married someone named Ayana. That’s also the name of one of one Avery’s children. I wonder if that was intentional

Judith Sisko is also missing

I gave it a five for this very reason. There is no excuse for getting the chief details of Sisko’s family tree wrong - especially in a tribute to DS9.

So they got wrong:

1. Sisko's mother.
2. Kasidy's name.
3. Omitted Ben and Kas' child.
4. Omitted Ben's sister Judith.
5. Omitted Ben's brother.
6. Omitted Ben's other brother.
7. Also, Sarah Sisko was not a non-corporeal being. She was a regular woman who was inhabited by a non-corporeal being for a time.

Nice QC, graphics people. ;)

I'm thinking Sonequa Sisko and Michelle Sisko might be for Martin-Green and Hurd?

The students on SFA are written as adolescents. Kelrec's problem wouldn!t be getting them to be aggressive and to gang up on people. It would be controlling that and training them to unleash it on command. I can see him having trouble there, being the way he is.

I enjoyed this one for the humor/hijinks and the actors. Kerrice is good.

I'll definitely have to watch this one again. I did enjoy the first watch, but it had just been built up so much.

It's been particularly interesting to read the interviews with Tawny and Cirroc about how Avery read multiple drafts of the script and signed off on everything. While watching, I kept thinking that it was a beautiful story about keeping someone with you even after they've died, but it didn't feel at all consistent with Sisko's promise to Kasidy. Yet I couldn't picture Cirroc doing it if Avery wasn't on board. And just thinking about that whole aspect was taking me out of it. So I'm eager to rewatch and just let it flow over me more.

But I suspect I'm still going to wish that the door was left more open to believe he came back in some way. I thought we were building towards the reveal that he came back and lived secretly with the family, which SAM would discover but also keep secret for the sake of protecting his stature amidst the Bajorans.

I mean, you could still technically believe that (it's only SAM's imagining of Jake that truly confirms he didn't come back, the child with Kasidy is left off the family tree specifically because they did end up all living in secret together, etc), but it takes a lot of heavy duty fanwanking to make it all fit. I'd just prefer an easier lift! :bolian:

The stuff at the bar was FABULOUS and gave me way too many college flashbacks.

The Kelric story was the worst material on SFA to date, but I guess you're not honoring the story of Sisko's sacrifice in the fire caves if you're not including an awkward and poorly paced subplot that detracts from the strong A story.

But hey, I can squint and pretend Winn & Dukat in the fire caves is good enough, so I can do the same with Kelric on rewatch of this, hopefully.

Also, Tawny's prosthetics were terrible! I haven't seen that much obvious latex since Admiral Jameson.

Oh my god, I died laughing at the Bajoran grabbing SAM's ear, and her grabbing his right back, and then the awkward cross talk of "Oh, YOU'RE not supposed to do that..." and "is that not how you say hello here?" and all that.

SAM's discussions with her makers were Star Trek-y in the best way, and that ending was incredibly satisfying. I loved how that "you'll be forced to return" tension built and built... to her simply realizing she doesn't have to listen to them.

I also like Jay-Den bringing the skant back, though I feel like Darem would work it even better.

The timing of Darem's interruption of Jay-Den and Kyle was also great fuel for my Jay-Den/Darem shipping. He doesn't care about the War College feud, that was pure jealousy!

.. Worse Episode EVER.
just.. wow.. Didn't care about a klingon in a Skort, or guy purging glitter.. no.

They IMPLICITLY went against Avery Brooks wish.
Original ending of DS9, Sisko went away to the Celestial Temple, Never to return. Avery Brooks Vetoed this idea. He knew he was a role model for people, and DID NOT want to be a dead beat dad to his wife and unborn daughter, so they had the Hopeful ending of I'll be back in a year, or Yesterday line.
YET 27 years latter.. No. Never returned. Deadbeat dad.
WHY? Made Kirk an Absentee Father ( Not a dead beat, he knew of the kid, but "respected" Carols wishes) Made Picard another Absentee Father, because Beverly was a NSFW word and didn't tell him. NOW THIS? WTH?? This is so Crap of writing!!

So every father that dies is a deadbeat?
Nope. He didn't die though, Avery wanted to have him return in the end.

It seems in several interviews that the subtextual intent was that he did return, but that the return was kepy secret and known only to a select few.
I would hope so, but they could have said that when he was talking with the unpublished book.

I am surprised Paul Giamatti has been in only one of the first five episodes.

I don't mind it, I think these episodes worked well without him (and "Vitus Reflux" semi-failed for reasons he wouldn't have helped). But the pre-release build-up just gave me the impression he would be a heavier presence.

And to Benjamin Sisko, who DID return.

Yes but his wants didn't work with the story, his intentions were good but the plot would be bad. See the novels and comics.

Besides he did willingly jump into a pit of alien ghost fire so he had obviously decided to sacrifice himself to save the entire galaxy. But I guess self sacrifice is now just selfish abandonment in the land of straw men. I always viewed his physical body getting burnt up and his soul whisked away to the wormhole.

Did you even Read what i wrote?
What Avery wanted? He didn't want to be a bad role model, that he didn't want to leave his daughter fatherless in the end because he was aware he was a role model and didn't want to be that guy. And they DID re write the ending to a hopefull one because originally it was just as you say, Jump. Dead.

Also, Sarah Sisko was not a non-corporeal being. She was a regular woman who was inhabited by a non-corporeal being for a time.
Never mind that, they have "Non Corporeal Being" listed under Jenna Sisko, who is presumably the woman Joseph married after his time with Sarah, the woman who actually raised Benjamin and who he believed was his mother before learning the truth about Sarah. I say presumably since her name was never given on DS9.

I will say, it's a nice touch making his step-mother named Jenna. Mainly because it fits the theme that everyone in the Sisko family besides Ben and Sarah (who are connected to the Prophets) have first names starting with J (Joseph, Judith, Jennifer, Jake).
