Just watched it. The story with the adults didn't do it for me. The story with the kids, I'm not the audience for.

The DS9 elements, I liked SAM's research into Sisko, and her learning about him and DS9. The scenes with Jake were great. But, and it's a big but, I'm not thrilled with the idea that Sisko never returned. And I don't like that Anslem was never published.

Overall, I give it a 6.

I did promise I'd give my take on all five episodes in one go, so here it is, for anyone who came back for this episode. I adjusted my ratings for some of them, now that I've better reflected on them.

"Kids These Days" --> Strong first act, the rest was okay, but it feels too much like high school. --> 7
"Beta Test" --> The negotiations with Betezed were something specific to this timeframe. I liked it. --> 8
"Vitus Reflux" --> I'm not the audience for it. Too kiddie for me. --> 5
"Vox In Excelso" --> Even though I don't like that Qo'noS became uninhabitable, what they did with the premise was great. The best episode. --> 9
"Series Acclimation Mil" --> Outside of the DS9 parts, this is skippable. --> 6

Average for the first half of the first season: 7.0

Like I said before: Not my favorite Trek series, but that doesn't change the fact that people review-bombed the Hell out of SFA on IMDB. It does a disservice to people who have honest and legitimate critiques.

Kudos to them recreating the Bajoran Orb perfectly

I wonder which orb it is. The narrator doesn’t specify. Orb of the Emissary would make thematic sense

The Family tree has a couple errors. They misspelled Kasidy with two Ss, and it lists Ben’s mother as ‘Jenna’ not ‘Sarah’, Sarah is on the tree connected to Joesph, I guess Jenna was meant to be his step mother and they got it backwards.

Jake married someone named Ayana. That’s also the name of one of one Avery’s children. I wonder if that was intentional

Judith Sisko is also missing

Nobody. My dude was one of a kind. Just making a joke that’s all.

Losers come out of the wood work from time to time pretending to be mostly forgotten, thought dead celebrities.

Anastasia.
Buckwheat.
Howard Hughes.

Maybe that pretty little girl interrupted a burglary?

Speaking of Rachel Robinson, she was in an episode of Wonderman last week.

Niners represent!

Me trying to see any of the family tree:

I felt proud of myself for calling it that Tawny's character was a new Dax host when she started talking like she knew Sisko and first referred to him as "Benjamin" when she was talking about gumbo. I was unfortunately spoiled about Ciroc's cameo, though, would have been a nice surprise. 😑

I do miss when the screengraphics guys would post their work as every new episode came out. I totally understand why they stopped though... the nitpicking must have driven them up the wall. I recall during SNW season two, Timothy Peel (I think?) even posting "corrected" versions following outcries that Spock's personell file had Michael and not Sybok, or vice-versa.

This one wasn’t excellent but it was ok. Good exploration of SAM and nice tribute to ds9.

Love that they involved Cirroc Lofton and the new arrangement of the ds9 theme at the end brought me a tear. I was wondering on why the teacher knew so much about sisko but she being Dax caught me totally by surprise, well played!

It means the Bajorans were cut off from the orb for 120 years until relatively recently.

Google helps my brain.

The Orb of the Emissary has nothing to do with Bajor.

SISKO: The inscription. It says Orb of the Emissary.
JAKE: I never knew there was an Orb of the Emissary.
SISKO: I've never heard of it either. At least, there's no mention of it in the Bajoran Ancient Texts.
JOSEPH: Sounds like you've reached a dead end.

(Google says, which is news to me) The Prophet who possessed Sarah used it on Earth as a powerup, maybe a sex manual to keep Joey sated, and then dumped it on Tyree's World to clean the bats out of Sisko's belfry.

The Orb was his Mom's tricorder or PADD to help "her" adapt to a completely alien environment, like the classic game of 5 cds you'd take with you to a deserted island, to be marooned with.

Also worth noting Sisko arguably lost his body in the fire caves, and there's nothing in lore to suggest the Prophets could just give him a new one.

Seems like Tawny interpreted "return" in a spiritual, rather than physical sense.
Sisko's mom had a body.

Sisko's mom had a body.
Yeah because she was a human woman that a prophet possessed. Once the prophet vacated Sarah's body she understandably freaked out about having a child with a man she did not know or consent to being with and fled to Australia where she died in a shuttle accident.

Possession, like in Rapture.

Joey said "One day My wife just started screaming "Stop raping me, stop raping me!" then she tried to kill me, and ran away, never to be seen again."

Same deal as Wonder Woman 1984.

Although.

This could explain the disappearing siblings, if Sisko from the DS9 pilot wasn't half prophet, then "later" the Prophet who took over Sarah, kept everything the same, except maybe adding a little "extra" to the bun in her oven, during gestation.
