Spoilers Starfleet Academy General Discussion Thread

WTF are you talking about?
That has been in literally every episode so far.

Gross misinterpretation of the latest episode were these things happened.

Never mind the gross mismanagement of safety in Starfleet all across the board throughout several shows.
Everything I mentioned happened within the first 3 episodes, they were either shown on screen or talked about. You have to just hand wave it away to ignore it.

Ake blew up a ship that they were superior to after defeating the pirate's gimmick with a very enthusiastic crew. Next 2 episodes she is promoting, peace, empathy, and patience to the students.

I mean that last bit at the end would have gotten student killed and destroyed the insides of a building if not for the cartoonish nature of the show.

That's the inferior ship that managed to incapacitate (what we think is) a newer ship of the line, with no qualms about harming the crew and cadets and was only defeated by a coding genius being able to hack the programmable matter.

Just noticed that Sandro Rosta and Bella Sheppard will be at Fedcon in Germany at the end of May, representing Starfleet Academy, and I’m super excited to see and possibly meet them. Fingers crossed that they will announce even more people from SFA. Would love to meet Gina Yashere and Karim Diané! 😍

Lucky! I went to a Con here in the UK once and it was overpriced and chock--a-block busy.
Been to Fedcon three times in the past, and a couple of times before that to Destination Trek, when that was still a thing, and while there’s always a ton of visitors roaming the floors and it all kind of feels like a rush, I always felt there was enough room to really meet these folks and say hi. Fedcon especially feels very familial and there’s plenty of opportunities to have an actor pass by you on the hallways, shake their hands when they have a smoke, or even dance with them at the party in the evening. But yeah, if you wanna make sure to really get a moment with someone who’s important to you you’ll have to spring for a photo, an autograph (in my experience the best / most affordable chance to actually have a brief chat with them) or even a pricey Meet and Greet.

Me, I’m always happy to just get my photo taken with them. That moment standing next to a person whose work on television you enjoy, shaking their hands, saying hi and maybe sharing a laugh, never gets old for me. I have some great memories standing next to the Trek folks I’ve been loving since I was a kid. It’s surreal and never fails to feel special.

I mean, they usually are.
Oh, I don't doubt it. Indeed, even the teachers who were something close to properly doing the job would make this complaint. Indeed, one of the teachers I consider to be among my favorites made it clear that it was only because his wife owned a small business that he could live comfortably.

Still, though I'm not one to preach about proper workplace etiquette (fuck knows I've engaged in all manner of inappropriate deeds or just outright slacked off at my own job) it still strikes me as unprofessional for a teacher to spend time they're supposed to be teaching a class complaining about their financial woes. But then, I do get there comes a point where some people just stop caring about what is or isn't appropriate.

And what's the deal w/ her walking bare foot anyway?
Addressed in episode two, “Beta Test” …
Kelrec: Regulation footwear is a requirement.
Ake: Yeah, I heard that. I just don’t like wearing them if I don't have to.
Kelrec: In all seriousness, it’s unsafe. You could …
Ake: Stub my toe? Get a splinter? I signed the waivers. Bare feet pick up electrons that reduce inflammation, up white blood cells and cytokines, and stimulate brain activity. Plus, sometimes, I just need to let the little piggies out to pasture, know what I mean?
Kelrec: I can confidently say I do not.

Don’t be a Kelrec. ;)

On the topic of Kelrec, has anyone else found it really odd Ake has played the "These kids grew up in the Burn!" card so many times to Kelrec? Is Kelrec also supposed to be Lanthanite, or did he spend his century of galactic dark age in a really special bubble? How can Ake play that card when she's older than everyone else?

Holly Hunter hasn't changed: there is always something in her throat. And what's the deal w/ her walking bare foot anyway?

I am beginning to think Holly Hunter must have been a smoker and it's impacted her voice somewhat. As for the walking bare foot. The show is establishing her as being eccentric. Maybe in part because of how old she is. I do wonder who is older. Her character or The Doctor. She goes back to before The Burn but The Doctor goes back even further to when he was activated on Voyager.

I am able to watch the episodes of this show in their entirety. I have not come across an episode that I have to skip to the ending to know how it ends. I hope that holds for the future.

Kelrec is 70. He states during during their meeting in 'Vitus Reflux' that Ake has 352 years on him. That's a great little bit of incidental world building there in regards to how humans age in the 32nd century.

I don't understand why some called her captain but her job title is Chancellor. And for that matter, the Chancellor of ? nation? it also doesn't make sense that in the yr. 3192, human needs to wear glasses
