Spoilers Speculation - S.2 legacy character (Noga Landau interview) - who is it?

Let's think about this in the narrowest possible case, with both actors and characters we haven't seen in awhile. I'm saying this because while it's undoubtedly true that we haven't seen Shatner in a long time, we've been seeing a ton of Kirk on SNW, meaning he really wouldn't count.
So, going through "main characters" of Trek series we've not seen since Berman Trek ended, I come up with:

- Dr. Pulaski (unlikely due to age)
- Tasha Yar (canonically dead)
- Benjamin Sisko (But if they couldn't get Brooks back for this season...)
- Jake Sisko (Cirroc would do it, but this doesn't seem like a big get)
- * Dax (not sure if it counts though if it's a new Dax and thus a recast)
- Miles O'Brien (a big get, but seems random)
- B'Elanna Tores (Would Dawson flip to being in front of the camera again?)
- Kes (Should be dead by now, but maybe Ocampa become energy beings eventually. Though Lein is still mentally ill, last I checked)
- Jonathan Archer (IMHO, the most likely - a big get who would come back, and makes sense in a historical holonovel thing. Also could be related to the Temporal Cold War with Archer as Future Guy)
- Malcom Reed (Could happen, but would anyone care?)
- Hoshi Sato (See above)
- Travis Mayweather (See above)
- Phlox (Slightly more likely than anyone else from ENT other than Archer, because we don't know how long Denobulans can live).

They're going to make all of "United" be an episode where the cadets go through a historical simulation hologram a la TATV, aren't they?
While I think I would greatly enjoy the comedic prospects of such an episode, I kinda doubt they would go with a deep cut like this. Also, I think it would really depend on how much they manage to have the EMH backup be a different character, since he’s had different experiences. Could make for a really interesting premise, but would they trust the audience to remember such an obscure episode?
You know, I actually think this could work really well and might be a nice homage to Archer and Enterprise.
He might be de-aged, having not chosen to age as this one has. He might have chosen a name. He might even have a family in tow.
The fact that I kept seeing people ask prior to the show starting which one he was suggests a lot of people remember the character. It may happen, but it won't be "the character we haven't seen in a while" that they're referring to thusly now.
I would love to see James T Kirk. Is Paul Wesley or Chris Pine available?
Besides, before they introduce a second version of the Doctor, I’d really like to know more about the original. What did he do during those 800 years? Why doesn’t he have a rank by now?
So far, all we know is that he sings opera at events, he’s still snarky, and he’s been given an aging subroutine. I really hope he doesn’t fall victim to the modern Trek problem of background characters whose backstories are barely explored.
I'm sure they'll get into it eventually. However, given the show is meant to be Trek YA, I don't think any of the adult characters will be given a solid focus episode (save perhaps Ake, at some point). The youth are our POV, so we'll only get details about the Doctor through conversations with SAM and the others.
