I know it's often easier said than done, but if possible, simply ignore posters whose posts seem troll-ish to you. Don't feed the troll, as it were.I grew up when TOS was the only live action Trek. The Academy was barely mentioned, so no.General curiosity question: did anyone else want to go to Starfleet Academy as a younger fan? I've had a fascination with the cadet life for a while now but I suspect many imagine themselves as officers first.
My fasciation with the Academy in Star Trek started with Where No Man Has Gone Before and Shore LeaveI grew up when TOS was the only live action Trek. The Academy was barely mentioned, so no.

Stacks of books and bullies? Sounds like High School. Hard pass.My fasciation with the Academy in Star Trek started with Where No Man Has Gone Before and Shore Leave![]()

I was planning to. Time goes by fast. Can't believe we're here.@Commander Richard -- are you going to be setting up episode threads again? I love your episode posters so I really hope so.
Never. Neither as a kid or an adult did the cadet life ever interest me. I found the idea boring.General curiosity question: did anyone else want to go to Starfleet Academy as a younger fan? Fascinating that the revulsion towards school is a factor. Starships always struck me as way too dangerous to be my first Starfleet experience.I hated school.
So, no.

Well, if Starfleet were a real thing and it was my ambition, of course I would do the Academy. But when I was at the Academy, I wouldn't say "this is my dream come true", it would just be the first step towards the dream. The dream coming true would be when I got my first starship assignment.Fascinating that the revulsion towards school is a factor. Simon Tarses said it best in "The Drumhead", when he said he didn't want to wait and sit in classrooms for 4 years.Fascinating that the revulsion towards school is a factor. Starships always struck me as way too dangerous to be my fist Starfleet experience.
*Raises hand*Who wants to watch a show about study hall?
I guess I get too practical in my own imaginationWell, if Starfleet were a real thing and it was my ambition, of course I would do the Academy. A fair point of view, just not one I share.Simon Tarses said it best in "The Drumhead", when he said he didn't want to wait and sit in classrooms for 4 years.
Escapism is hard for meWhat got me into Star Trek was escapism. When I was a kid, escapist would mean "anywhere but school!"
It's still the safest way to travel.Fascinating that the revulsion towards school is a factor. Starships always struck me as way too dangerous to be my fist Starfleet experience.
Absolutely not."Roddenberry's Utopia" is why people like Trek.
