Exclusive Clip

Speaking on the Academy clip (I think it's probably not good for the show that people are so uninterested that the discussion has become complaining about other things instead) I cant really have a take on the clip because I feel like the show is decidedly not about this. The promo and posters is all about the cadets and yet this clip is about a Starfleet ship being attacked with who are presumably the main characters peripheral to it. Is this going to be all of the show? Or even half of it? I don't know. But it was fine and Im warming on the look of the ship.

I think SNW is middling at best and season 3 mostly sucked (like surprisingly so) but I think that's becoming a well tread conversation here. I wont go as far as to call it fan wank but I think the show doesnt really feel like it has a specific voice yet, for me, because it feels like so much is meant to follow up or set up rather than exist in the now. Other than the casual bridge crew and character interactions which does feel uniquely SNW (and I dont think that's a bad thing). That being said I will take any chance to complain about Picard Season 3.

Actually I'd say most Legacy fans would have been happy with Captain Seven of Nine and the occasional TNG or DS9 actor guest appearance.
I think a big subset of the most die hard Legacy fans are generally not Lower Decks fans, they say stuff like they hope Matalas can come on and make everything but Picard season 3 non canon. Something I used to pay attention to when everything wasnt cancelled was what people excitedly talked about wanting to see in an upcoming season of (nu)Trek. Ultimately, 90% of the speculation or discussion of the show from my perspective is who could appear on set that week to audience applause and what classic loose end they could tie up from the Berman era.

I personally would love a show set in the 25th century. Keep Captain Seven, cut changing the name of the ship to Enterprise, get Jack Crusher off that damn bridge, and absolutely dont call the show Legacy Characters Meet Up Hour.

Ummm a lot of network shows still have over 20 episodes.
Not a lot, actually. Looking over scripted programs on the networks for the 2024-25 season:
ABC only had one show go over 20 episodes, which did 22
CBS only had six shows to go over 20 episodes, which did 22
Fox only had four shows to go over 20 episodes, which did 22
NBC only had six shows to go over 20 episodes, which did 22.
After seeing institutions like The Simpsons/Family Guy/Bob's Burgers transition to 15 episode seasons this year, that's when it dawned on me that 20 episode seasons are truly over. In terms of cartoons, Prodigy truly might be one of the last. Honestly I'm surprised when new shows even get 12 to 15 episodes (though I think more shows should have that instead of 10 episodes).

So...this is why we are not talking about it. People think this isn't indicative of what it will be and filling in what they imagine rather than being patient enough to just watch the show.

Which is why it is uninteresting to me. Imagine a band only touring cities they've already played

Sounds stupid.

I don't know how anyone is taking that away from STARFLEET ACADEMY.
It was. I watched it, but I was 12 and often had TV on when doing homework. The show was actually called Beverly Hills 90210.

I think the comparison is because a lot of Trek fans are pretty old and disdained the idea of teen dramas in general and still remember it as something anathema. And in Star Trek fandom, for some reason I think hating kids is popular. I never understood the hatred for Wesley Crusher that somehow persists to this day. I get he was terrible in Season 1, but so was everyone else.
