Strange New Worlds disappointment

But right now when the world is (believe it or not) in a darker place than it was during TOS ‘s time and there are so many issues that need to be addressed even allegorically,SNW is doing….poorly.
You’re going to say that people want to get away from current events/issues.Ok.
When Trek TV writers decide to "address issues" on Star Trek, they do it...poorly.

The notion that Trek exists as some sort of culturally significant guidepost or commentary is foolishness. Very, very old foolishness.

SNW is more entertaining than the whole rest of Star Trek in this century. That's what matters.

Ok buddy.You win .Hurrah !

SNW is a masterpiece.A true gem.A treasure for all the ages.
I can’t wait for the episode where Spock accidentally invites two girls to the Starfleet prom.Or the one where Pike(the man not the fish..though he maybe identifies as a fish)goes waterskiing in shark infested waters….yay!

Yes.I’m old enough to know what the 60’s were like.I was there.

Newsflash…war racism and terrorism are still with us.Some of it even state sponsored.
As was I.

This isn't a newsflash. I'm under no illusion they've gone away. State sponsored? Not a new thing either.

Hyperbolize much?

I honestly dont see the first one as that hyperbolic tbh

No.I’m not suggesting that Muppets are just for kids.TBH The Muppets are a genuine cultural phenomenon.

I dont care if a Trek show doesnt want to be more outwardly allegorical (Lower Decks has commentary but is less outwardly allegorical and still easily the best modern Trek show) but the big problem is when a show does it and isnt good at it. So I cant get upset at the Muppet episode (or any of the gimmicks) on the merit of wishing that we got something more substantial instead because the most explicitly allegorical episode of S3 was also one of my least favourite in the season. My only side eye at the Muppet episode is what the purpose of the format bender would be. Because for me a format screw is enhanced by the idea of "what about the story benefited from it being told this way." I'm a big Subspace Rhapsody enjoyer but that I felt aspect was not strong enough (one could argue that the phraming of a musical existed so that they'd all more openly confront their feelings because the genre is often characterized by people expressing their emotional state with music, which I can agree with)

Somebody’s learned a new word.

Perhaps the show is suffering from (ahem) too short a season. If the season ran as long as TOS’ did then the wildly fluctuating quality and tenor of the episodes might not stick out as much as they do.Every iteration of Trek has had its fair share of clunkers but SNW seems to be swinging for the bleachers.

Anyhoo it really is a matter of opinion and I’ve stated mine. The musical episode doesn’t bother me one way or the other,I watched it and probably won’t do so again.I’m a long time fan but TBH my enthusiasm has been well and truly curbed.

I hope the academy show will be better.

I may be in the minority but Ive never been too upset at the episode count. It would be nice if the seasons were longer (I dont need 26 episodes, but I could definitely be happier with 13 to 15) but what I think the shows need more are a consistent release schedule. Not to bring everything back to Lower Decks but releasing at the same time every year 5 years in a row was *chef's kiss*

Two girls to the prom? Totally hyperbolic.
I think Spock accidentally setting up a dinner date with two people is 100% something they'd do in one of the mid season Spock comedy episodes, outside using the word prom it just sounds like something I could see the show doing pretty easily.

Only if there's a laugh track. ;)
Damn space anomalies!!!

There have been more episodes that I've enjoyed than I haven't.

How bad is season 3? I haven't watched it yet. I'm waiting to see if there are any P+ specials over the holidays.

An audience of amused aliens. Be sure to include the "uh-oh" made famous in I Love Lucy.

With a sciency reason: Spock shifting back and forth between two realities, each with a different girl, one on a dinner date, the other getting shot at by aliens on an away mission, keeps calling each by the other's name, etc.

Boring answer but just watch the first couple episodes yourself as it's been fairly polarising, or check out reviewers you know you vibe with. I disliked more than I liked this season (to the point where I was surprised) and I have seen the reception trend negative but I know a lot of people really enjoyed it.

This would actually work I think, put in amnesia where him and we as the audience arent sure which reality is the correct one and so he's trying to get clues to the answer from both situations

Parallels was actually a good TNG episode. I actually could see them switching Spock between being married to T'Pring, engaged to Christine and dating La'an.

I'm glad I could be of service. I have an extensive vocabulary and love to share.
I've had to use the word quite often over the decades, especially when talking to fellow fans. It's well worn, but always useful.
Inspirational.
Truly inspirational.
Oh how lucky we are that someone with your wit, erudition, perception and perspicacity has chosen to walk amongst us.
Golly it wasn’t just The Orange Shitstain that was passed over by the Nobel committee,eh?
