Trek's future according to Paramount's new owners...

Or the TNG-era Trek films.

I was attempting to list series where the film came out between seasons and the show continued on TV after. But Munsters actually is a TNG situation where the movie was made immediately after the show ended. Bob's Burgers and South Park are other examples of Mid-Run movies.

But after 5 seasons they can also get new actors. From the main cast, other than Spock, Uhura, Chapel and M'benga to a lesser extent, all the other characters are expendable and don't have to continue for a proposed sixth season. They can be replaced by Kirk, Scotty, McCoy, Sulu, Chekov, Rand, Kelso, and any other first season TOS character they want. That would make far more sense than to end SNW and start a new show on a completely different Enterprise with a completely different cast. The fact that that's not what's happening, makes it seem pretty clear that they have no intention of making another show like 'Legacy' (or 'Year One,' for that matter.)

Enterprise exists beyond the 23rd century.

How is Trek served if Enterprise is sealed in 23rd century amber?

It won't just be the Enterprise-G. There's SFA and Tawny Newsome's new show too (assuming it goes into production).

"They" are no longer in charge. The decision was made under the previous regime. We don't have any information beyond "TV and Movies will coordinate now".

I think they should just make TV and movies with the same cast. It's been done (Batman, Munsters, X-files, Simpsons) it's just not common.

Kurtzman’s contract is still in place through 2026, if I’m not mistaken. So unless that changes, he’s still the Trek showrunner for the next year.

None of that means anything to the presumably new audience Skydance wants to market to. Hopefully we’ll have a clearer picture by February on the next Star Trek cruise that we’re planning to attend, and I can get correct information straight from the horses’ mouths.

But he's also not the one making greenlight and cancellation decisions, that's above his paygrade.

That’s true. There is a scenario where Skydance could immediately tell him to cease production on SNW S4&5, and SFA, and they would just never be completed and shown. But I doubt that will happen. I don’t see any major changes for at least a year.

Nicholas Meyer wrote his movie when Startrek had only three seasons and a single movie of history to it.

Which meant he could just make up pretty much whatever without stepping on the toes of others.

He wrote three movies, and admits himself that the third in particular broke the Trek mould and upset Roddenberry.

I always laugh at the incessant complaints that X writer isn't a "fan" because they don't write the sort of Trek that the complainer wants, or the calls for the writer of a new series to be a "fan".

Fans wrote the likes of Nemesis, Precious Cargo and Picard S2 (which I didn't mind, but plenty hate it), while a non-fan wrote the only three good TOS films.
