The biggest downside might be Peck's availability and price. Usually cast expenses increase overtime and he'll be the longest serving actor. Will he even want to continue?

It's a new series, that means an entirely new contract and salary negotiations. He'll have negotiation leverage, but so will all the other TOS actors. And they all know that if they ask too much they will sink the show and not get paid at all.

It's still a risk, particularly Peck being interested if they start playing hardball. It's more a continuation than a spinoff in those terms. But hopefully it happens.

Ok maybe there's only one clear cut example that couldn't be called a regular spin off. Its when they ended The Suite Life of Zach and Cody and replaced it the next Season with The Suite Life on Deck, the same show on a cruise ship instead of a hotel.

Well, no. SNW can't leave TOS alone as it is. They've ALREADY redone Balance of Terror. In addition to Spock (who is necessary to the Pike era) we've also now got Kirk, M'Benga, Scotty, Uhura, T'Pring, Roger Korby, Robert April, and Chapel. Honestly, Sulu and McCoy are the only ones missing at this point. They've rehashed the Gorn into alien xenomorphs, brought in Trelane, Q (as Trelane's father), and couldn't help showing the face of the Romulans in 'alternate realities' long before it was supposed to happen. They killed off the most interesting new character to come along in ages midway during the first season, and the rest of the new characters are shoved into the background so they can constantly ship Spock and Chapel. No hate for Paul Wesley but this Kirk recast just doesn't work.

I really hope this doesn't happen. I've nearly had my fill of prequels. We all wanted a Legacy show set in the 25th century. Continuing in that timeline would be better.

TNG had a nice long run and it was really great, but there's no need to go there again for a third time.

Doing Era's that have only been slightly touched upon, is probably the smart way to go just because of the large fan curiosity about those time periods.
The mass of popular Trek novels that have delved into that type of thing is proof positive that it would most likely be well received.

Maybe not but I have a feeling a 32nd century starfleet academy isn't on a lot of wish lists either.

This isnt really that great. The trailer hasn't been blowing up in popularity thats for sure.

Yeah, I didn’t want Legacy. I would have watched if they had done it but no.

The best option for a new series would be to “TNG” it. Set it 75 years after the end of Picard S3 on a new ship (an Enterprise if you must) with an all new crew that has no ties to the last show.

700 years is to far. The set directors have made it look too much like early std or snw. They should have gotten new set designers to design sets totally different. When tng started gene wanted a different look and got it. This show looks like the same old dark bridge or rooms with neon lighting. It.looks terrible. I would have been ok with 70 or 80 years past Picard. But honestly going to the 32nd century has really ruined any advancement we would have seen 80 years past picard at this juncture. What idiot thought going to the 32nd century was a brilliant move?
